However, surveys have consistently shown that this is not because public sector workers stay at home when they are well, but because private sector workers go to work when they are ill, for fear of their jobs or because they don't get paid. It is a sad world if some people think this is a good thing. In addition, the local government figures include the police, who sadly are regularly injured whil on duty.

Still, always an easy target, those public sector workers, hey?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377446.post-1155647535029335472006-08-15T14:12:00.000+01:002006-08-15T14:12:00.000+01:00Nanny and the jobsworth killjoys working for her c...Nanny and the jobsworth killjoys working for her certainly make ME sick!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377446.post-1155559490199451792006-08-14T13:44:00.000+01:002006-08-14T13:44:00.000+01:00When I worked for the Ministry of Defence in the s...When I worked for the Ministry of Defence in the sixties, it was recognised that you took all the time off that was alloted to you.

This would have been three weeks holiday and two weeks sick leave, the latter would have been seen as part of your holiday entitlement, and of course was nothing to do with being sick.Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07869446125647539607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377446.post-1155554630488089482006-08-14T12:23:00.000+01:002006-08-14T12:23:00.000+01:00David has hit on the real reason, full pay for six...David has hit on the real reason, full pay for six months, no questions asked. Good wheeze, isn't it?

The solution, no pay at all apart from SSP, like the majority of the private sector. That should focus that 'sick' feeling.spivhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13404364711838124485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377446.post-1155552744837549082006-08-14T11:52:00.000+01:002006-08-14T11:52:00.000+01:00It's about time the sick pay rules were changed fo...It's about time the sick pay rules were changed for these people. If they get full pay for the first six months then why not take the piss? Let's get it changed so they got NO pay for the first 2 weeks, unless they have a valid sick line. That'll soon cut out the "duvet days".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377446.post-1155548618043972002006-08-14T10:43:00.000+01:002006-08-14T10:43:00.000+01:00OkAs someone who have previously worked in local g...Ok

As someone who have previously worked in local government I agree with the majority of your points.

But how about this...it is almost impossible to get fired from these jobs so why not take the piss?Davenellihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00788935613428347499noreply@blogger.com
