As for the old chestnut that the Beeb has to compete in the market, I suspect that the commercial channels have to compete with the Beeb: the former cope with the tension of advertising jockeying with actual programming while the Beeb rakes in about £4,000,000,000 annually without having to appeal to anyone except the BBC Trust. As for the famous standards of the Beeb: the impartiality of its journalism and the quality of its drama, the former is a joke and the latter infrequent (the last one I can remember is the adaptation of "Wolf Hall".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
