Nanny's Covid Passport Dilemma

Nanny has got herself into a wee bit of a muddle over Covid passports.

Whilst it is clear that for international travel there will be a need for something, it is far from clear as to whether they are needed (or indeed are practical) for ordinary domestic activities eg shopping/going to the pubs.

A theoretical case can be made for domestic use, if other restrictions (eg masks and social distancing) are removed. However, it is far from clear that Nanny wants those restrictions removed.

Even if the restrictions are removed, in exchange for a covid passport, there are ethical and practical problems eg:

-should people's medical history (even part of it) be made public?

-is it technically possible for passports to be created?

-what additional costs will be incurred for shops/pubs etc in manning the entrances to stop non passport holders gaining entrance?

The list can be added to.

I suspect that as the cases go down, and the complexity/costs of the passports becomes clearer, Nanny will gently kick the idea into the long grass and only revisit it if there is a surge in the winter.
