Too Old To Be Insured

My thanks to a loyal reader who pointed me in the direction of some Nanny insurance nonsense that prevented ex Royal Navy Albert 'Dusty' Miller (who served his country with distinction in World War Two) from acting as the Royal British Legion parade marshal (a role he has carried out for the last 38 years).

Seemingly he is now deemed to be "too old" to be insured!

That is always the way with insurance companies, they never like putting themselves at risk of "paying out". Given that Mr Miller put himself at considerable risk during his wartime service, one would have thought an exception could have been made .

Mr Miller was quoted by the Express:
"They came up to me and said, 'I've got a bit of bad news for you'. "At first I thought somebody had died and it was going to be another funeral. Then they told me HQ insisted I had to stand down as parade marshal.

I said I was still fit and able, but they said it's because of insurance and that I should have stood down when I was 85.

It hit me like a ton of bricks.

I was that disgusted I didn't know what to say.

I've been a marshal for the Merseyside and West Lancs branch for 38 years. I never even knew standard-bearers had to be insured.
Insurance is very much a one way street when it comes to risk!

Poppy Sellers Banned

Poppy Sellers BannedYesterday was the 90th anniversary of the end of the "Great War". Nanny, true to form, decided to commemorate it in her own special way.

Nanny's chums in the police from the Littlemoor area of Weymouth banned two poppy sellers from selling poppies door to door.

Jan Hinton and Charlotte Warren-Sinclaire have, for the past seven years, raised hundreds of pounds for the Royal British Legion.

However, this year, police banned them from door to door selling on the grounds that they were "bogus callers".

They tried to convince Nanny's police that they were not bogus, by showing their official documents, but were still ordered to leave because a member of the public had complained.

I hope that the member of the public who complained feels proud of himself/herself, and that in the event that we face another war there are people willing to lose their lives to defend that person's right to complain to the police about a trivial matter such as someone selling poppies door to door.

The officers allegedly threatened to "pull the plug" to stop the Legion from selling poppies in the evening if the pair did not cooperate.

Mrs Hinton said:

"We are always polite and never force people into buying them. We have never experienced anything like this so were stunned. They have to respond to suspect callers so we showed them our ID badges, tins and poppy trays.

Their attitude was just unbelievable. They said we couldn't collect after dark and not to collect this week because it was Halloween.

They then said if we carried on, they would pull the plug on the RBL doing house-to-house collections.

I thought I was hearing it wrong. Who do they think they are claiming-they have the authority to make that decision?

They wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for my father and all the other people who fought in the war. They ought to be ashamed
."

Nanny has no shame, and programs her underlings to follow the letter of the law without employing any common sense or humanity.

Her father, Arthur Pitman, served in the Royal Medical Corps and was a prisoner in Burma.

A Dorset Police spokesman said:

"Many people, particularly the elderly, are worried about bogus callers.

We do not have any problem with legitimate collecting of this kind
."

The why ban it, if you don't have a problem with it?

Maybe the person who complained would like to explain himself/herself?

Nanny Bans Remembrance

Nanny Bans RemembranceToday 87 years ago, the First World War ended. This Sunday, in the UK, it is Remembrance Sunday.

Normally, in the seaside town of Walton Essex, war veterans fire maroons at the beginning and the end of the two minute silence on Remembrance Sunday hedl at the Royal National Lifeboat (RNLI) station.

However, this year Nanny has decided to ban the maroons.

It seems that Nanny's chums in the RNLI HQ have sent a memo to all their lifeboat stations, warning them not to fire maroons because they could misfire or debris could be blown back to shore by the wind.

John Halls, the chairman of the local Royal British Legion, said he was "very sad" that the decades-old tradition had come to an end.

"When we fire the lifeboat maroons in any coastal town where there is a memorial service, it is a reminder of the people who fought for this country."

The people of Walton now plan to use fireworks instead.

Doesn't Nanny disapprove of them as well?

Thank You

Thank You

This weekend sees the main national commemorative events marking the end of the war in Europe and the war in the Pacific, 60 years ago.

The Royal British Legion are using this 60th anniversary to say thank you to the men and women of both the armed forces, and civilian services, who lived and fought for our freedom and liberty during that time.

I would like to make my own personal note of thanks to my parents, and grandfather, who were involved with the war effort at that time.

Grandfather, who is now dead, served in the Royal Navy in the First World War and the merchant navy in the Second. My father served in the merchant navy, on the Atlantic convoys during the Second World War; whilst my mother worked in a factory, making electronic equipment.

Whilst that war is now long since over, the threat to liberty remains; as evidenced by the attacks last Thursday on London.

It is an appropriate time to remember that London has been a major city for over 2000 years.

It has survived fire, flood, plague, rioting, the Luftwaffe and the IRA.

Thursday's attack will not destroy it, London will survive long after the intellectually and morally bankrupt theocracy that planned the attack has been consigned to the dustbin of history.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

Lions Led By Donkeys

Lions Led By Donkeys

As nanny happily involves our troops in yet another war, those that fought in earlier ones will next month lead the country in the annual service of Remembrance.

Each year the Royal British Legion sells around 30 million poppies for Remembrance Day.

However, since last year, the pin that used to fix the poppy to peoples’ jackets has been removed.

It seems that nanny, despite feeling brave enough to put others’ lives at risk abroad, is not prepared to allow her domestic charges to risk stabbing themselves with a pin.

It appears to me that nanny has her priorities muddled.

A Spoonful of Sugar

Sugar, Nanny's Pet HateIn her youth, nanny used to advocate a spoonful of sugar; to help the medicine go down.

However, as she has grown older, nanny has become less tolerant of “sugar coating” the pill; she firmly believes that people must live according to her rules and beliefs, and follow the latest “food fad” scare story.

Currently nanny is campaigning against salt, but she also has other food groups in her sights. One of her acolytes “let the cat out of the bag” this week, by stating that sugar was next on the list of poison food groups disapproved of by nanny; shades of the Mikado (“I have a little list…”) here I fear.

However, the British public are not so easily cowed into submission; coming to the rescue are a legion of London taxi drivers, who have been on a diet that encourages them to snack on sugar products such as jelly babies.

The results have been interesting, contrary to the “scientific evidence” that nanny will be producing in her forthcoming campaign against sugar, they have lost weight.

Nanny is reported to be most annoyed at this attempt to undermine her authority.

Once salt and sugar have been placed in the list of “proscribed substances”, it is really anybody’s guess as to which basic food group nanny will attack next; maybe it will be your favourite?
