Yesterday evening Anthony Costello a member of "Independent SAGE" (a group of left wing activists doing their best to bring down the government) posted the above statement on Twitter.
The media, without checking the facts, jumped on it and published all manner of lurid stories eg The Mail:
Chris Whitty 'wants a new two-week NATIONAL lockdown and true UK cases are as high as 38,000-a-day', ex-WHO expert who sits on Independent SAGE panel claims
This morning, less than 12 hours after posting that tweet, Costello retracted it!
It is disgraceful that Costello posted an unsubstantiated rumour, and disgusting that the media ran with it without first checking the facts! If Costello has any honour he will apologise and stand down from the pseudo SAGE.
Lockdown has caused many people series problems with their mental health, to deliberately scare them like this is inexcusable!

Dear Mr Frost
ReplyDeleteIf that nice Mr Costello is correct, it means of course it is game over for the epidemic. 38,000+ new cases daily but only 27 dying from or with it yesterday (Friday 18) and a 7 day average of 17 deaths would be a pitifully small result for any self-respecting pandemic virus.
If he does delete his post, it will be because he has realised that anyone with reasoning power could see it makes the whole government response a total farce, and is certainly not cause for a further two week lockup. Doubtless though, our beloved government would gloss over that aspect and the sheeple will gladly fall in line, and applaud.
Excess deaths this year compared with the 5 year average peaked at around 55,000. "With covid" deaths are around 42,000, that means there are 17,000 excess deaths NOT attributable to covid.
Are these deaths anomalous? How many of them are directly due to the lockup?
