Nuts!

Despite the remarkable failure of BAA to keep Heathrow, one of the world's busiest (yet truly awful) airports, open during the inclement weather my partner (Eva) managed to fly back from Stockholm yesterday without any delay or fuss.

How?

Oh, simple, she flew Norwegian Air to Gatwick (an airport not "managed" by BAA).

Her journey though was not without an element of Nannyism.

On board the flight she was about to open a chocolate bar that contained nuts.

Can you guess what happened next children?

Yes, that's right, she was forbidden from opening it.

For why?

Seemingly, somewhere on board was a person with a nut allergy.

Now if this person was sitting next to her, was going to lick the bar or sniff in the nuts I could understand the concern. However, this was simply not the case.

An overreaction yes?

  1. The whole of the Nanny industry seems obcessed with nut allergies. It is true to say that for those with a real allergy, it is serious but, today, the world and it's sister seems to have some kind of allergy; my own grandson, aged six, ran a mile because he saw me open a packet of biscuits with "Ginger Nuts" on the outside....As it turns out, he is not allergic to nuts nor anything else, the teachers at his school and my somewhat newly neurotic daughter has brainwashed him into such things.

I think in many cases, the whole of the allergy thing is another means for bossy people to control others.

    Ken;
Have you noticed how many hi-viz clad muppets have appeared on our news programmes since the start of the snow?....My all time favourite was the CEO of BAA at Heathrow; his Hi-Viz garb appeared brand new and looked as if it had been pressed!!! lol What an office suit needs a hi-viz jacket for I don't know.
Yesterday I also saw a local "official" wearing a hi-viz bobble hat.....It made me laugh, I wonder how many others we'll see in such a hat over the coming weeks, as I bet there are many council officers thinking they too must get such a hat.

    Just laugh at Hi-Viz!!!

'Nut allergy?' That's OK - this chocolate contains the seeds of the leguminous plant 'Arachis Hypogaea' - which are not nuts.

(Except that such a remark would probably be taken as 'terroristic')

Bloody Ridiculous! Eva wasn't going to force anyone else to eat nuts, so what is the problem? I mean, how would Eva even know who the individual allergic to nuts was? I agree with you, Ken, a mega overreaction, as usual Nanny has taken a sledgehammer to crack a nut (excuse the pun!)!

No doubt they see it as a symbol of authority, so they can lord it over everybody else, even more than usual. ("You must obey me, I have a hi-viz bobble hat!" Oooh, I'm scared (not)!

My neighbour, on requesting some grit for our busy country lane, was told we couldn't have a grit box or have the road gritted because it was a health and safety hazzard!! WTF and FFS get a grip!!!
