A Licence To Wank

I see that Nanny is very annoyed that people spend their days staring at computer porn wanking, instead of working to pay the taxes that she uses to live her life of bliss.

As such Nanny intends to make us apply for licences to wank.

Needless to say Nanny is using the "won't someone think of the children?" excuse for this intrusion into our internet activities.

Nanny wants to put extra pressure on computer users to filter out pornography when setting up internet accounts. Nanny wants people automatically barred from accessing "unsuitable" adult material unless they actually choose to view it.

Who decides what is "unsuitable" I wonder?

Define "porn"?

The excuse used is that it will "shield" children from pornography.

Bollocks!

When I was at school (a gazillion years before the internet) the school was awash with wank mags etc, many a pupil went blind as a result of excess fiddling.

Nanny has as much chance of blocking kids from seeing porn as she does of dis-inventing the wheel.

Needless to say it will not just be porn sites that she targets, she is also looking at other sites that she deems to be "inappropriate". A list no doubt that will grow with the effluxion of time!

I must stop typing now, as I seem to have an rsi of the wrist:)

  1. I am not at all surprised by this; Nanny fears the internet and various Nannies have tried to take more control over it and not just China. The USA have tried, The EUSSR have tried and Westminster Nanny is still trying and, to some extent, is making progress.

She has already managed to force ISPs to keep records of all communications by using her anti terror coverall. Now she wants to censor it using her child protection coverall. It appears that not just porn will be barred; sites about suicide, anorexia and self harm are on Nanny's list. I wonder how long it will be before the race coverall or the equality coverall are played. Will she eventually bar say EDL or BNP sites? Will she bar this site or HMRC are shite? Will she bar Catholic sites if they voice opinions against homosexuals or abortion etc?
Once she goes down that road, she will open a real can of worms and then the state; perhaps The EUSSR, will have total power over what we are taught at school, what news and information we get from the media and what we can view online.

If Nanny combines the record of communications database and the "license to wank" database, she would then be able to keep an eye on or target those that want to look at things she disapproves off. Scary stuff eh?

Nanny will have to employ people whose only job is to spend all day searching out internet porn.

Do you think my CV will look more professional in Times New Roman or Calibri?

You can choose to opt out of this filter and receive your Internet unfiltered.

Great. So, they are going to collect a database of "pervs" and "subversives" who have asked to opt out.

I wonder what Nanny will do with that list?

That is a good question.....I wonder if Nanny will assume, that anyone that has children living at home, who chooses to opt for an unfiltered internet service, will be deemed to be a danger to those children? I wouldn't put it past her.

  4. There was a studio discussion on Newsnight yesterday about this. A short film clip showed that it took a matter of seconds to bypass a "porn filter" using a proxy server. This is already being used by lots of people to access The Pirate Bay since all the major UK ISP's were ordered to block it recently.

Take that a stage further and it will lead to a huge increase in the use of VPN's - many have already speculated that customers using those will "automatically" be assumed to be up to something dodgy...

Many of the technical blogs and commenters talk about "cat and mouse" games to try and avoid ever stricter censorship, but that isn't going to be easy for the vast majority of everyday users. Short of a miracle, I can't see the internet being any use within the next 10 years - people will go back to swapping discs / memory sticks or setting up local networks to exchange information.

George Orwell - where are you?

I came of age in the 7o's, WAY before the internet, and we had access to porn if we wanted it....we just had to be a little more creative. have the olderest looking of us try to buy a brown paper wrapped magazine, sneak into a X rated movie, nick stuff from our parents dresser drawers etc...

Kids will always be curoius and will find a way to take a peek.
