Stop Fat Shaming Children
The Independent reports that James Cracknell (an Olympian) has issued a report that says that schools should stop “fat shaming” overweight children, and instead give them helpful advice to lose weight.
The report notes that teachers outlining their concerns about chubby pupils in letters to parents are unwittingly contributing to other physical and mental health illness such as anorexia. Instead they should be told how to encourage more sleep, physical exercise and eat nutritious meals.
That all sounds very sensible, if the parents themselves are on board wrt healthy eating etc. Unfortunately Cracknell then goes on to back a sugar tax, and BMI measurements for kids.
