ASH Burns Its Fingers

Deborah Arnott, chief executive of the campaign group Action on Smoking and Health (Ash), said:
“The continuing decline in smoking prevalence is a tribute to many years when successive governments have implemented comprehensive and progressive tobacco control strategies, including tax rises, mass media campaigns, anti-smuggling measures, smoke-free laws, advertising bans, and last but not least getting rid of tobacco displays and glitzy tobacco packaging.”
It's all very well to crow about the "effectiveness" of plain packs, but ASH seem to have "forgotten" that plain packs didn't come into the UK until May 2016. The decline in smoking stats refer to 2015 and earlier.

Most likely the increased use of vaps accounts for the decline, certainly not plain packs.

Fag Matters - Scotland's "Biggest Killer"

FagTalking of drugs, as we are currently doing, I see that Nanny's other pet hate (fags) has been the subject of some recent discussion in Scotland.

Fags, as we now know, are almost on the same level as cocaine (which itself is around as third as harmful as booze); although they are a lot cheaper than coke, and raise significant revenue for Nanny.

Anyhoo, Ash Scotland (the Scottish anti-smoking charity) recently called for a "consultation" on banning smoking in vehicles in Scotland.

LOL!

Whenever I hear the word "consultation" spewed forth by Nanny and her acolytes, I instinctively reach for my sickbag. "Consultation" means that Nanny has already come to her conclusion, and is merely seeking a way to justify it to the media and the public.

Ash Scotland are of the view that fags are "Scotland's biggest killer".

Are they sure?

Wasn't Scottish Nanny recently saying that obesity was Scotland's biggest killer, or was it booze (the threat always seems to chnage at Nanny's whim)?

Ash Scotland have published their views in "Beyond Smoke Free", which calls for a consultation on introducing legislation to ban smoking in vehicles and the development of "robust" intermediate and endpoint targets (whatever that means - why is Nanny incapable of speaking in plain English?) to reduce the effects of passive smoking in the home and in vehicles.

Given how "dangerous" Ash believes "second hand smoke" in cars is, will they also be banning cars as well (given that the pollution from cars is far more detrimental to everyone's health and the environment than fag smoke)?

Oh, one more point, this proposal means that the hapless smoker will be able to light up as soon as he/she crosses the border into England. That rather makes a mockery of it doesn't it?

Prats of The Week - Nanny Bans Smoking in Cars

A wet and grey day in Brighton, and I am up to my armpits in removal boxes. Hence it is time to award "Prats of The Week".

This week it goes to the anti smoking Nazis who now want the Government to ban smoking in cars.

Action on Smoking and Health (Ash) claims the pollution caused by one cigarette in a car is as bad as a pub filled with smoke.

Ermmm...what about the pollution caused by the car itself?

In its report, Beyond Smoking Kills, it states that stopping smoking in cars is "vital in cutting the exposure of children and young people to the toxins in second-hand tobacco smoke".

Ash's director Deborah Arnott said:

"It's a serious health issue. Research from Canada shows if you smoke once in a car you get the same pollution as you used to get at the end of an evening in a pub.

The level of exposure you get in an enclosed vehicle is extremely high and it's not at all good for your health
."

The thin end of the wedge, they will ban it altogether.

ASH, well deserving Prats of The Week.

Prats of The Week

Prats of The WeekA little late in the week, but it is time to award my prestigious "Prats of The Week" Award.

This week it goes to all those tossers who complained to the BBC about a wee incident on Top Gear.

Jeremy Clarkson and his co-presenter, James May, managed to offend some interfering busybodies with too much time on their hands, by lighting up a couple of pipes on air during Top Gear.

Oh my goodness...the horror...the humanity!!!

The astute amongst you will be quick to point out that, under Nanny's new anti smoking laws, such behaviour is verboten.

Seemingly the mere sight of actors, "personalities" etc smoking would immediately cause the whole country to become addicted to tobacco..yes, we are apparently (in Nanny's eyes at least) really that thick!

Now here's the real laugh though, Clarkson and May weren't smoking "evil" tobacco...they were smoking "good" herbal tobacco. Therefore they were not breaking Nanny's laws.

Needless to say the interfering busybodies in this country, who have nothing better to do with their time than to stick their noses in where they don't belong, have chosen to ignore the facts.

The anti-smoking charity Action for Smoking on Health (Ash), have demanded an apology from the BBC.

Who are they to demand?

What gives them moral prescience over the rest of us?

Why should one single issue group be in a position to dictate to the rest of us what we may, or may not, do?

Have they really got nothing better to do with their lives?

Amanda Sandford, spokeswoman for the charity, shrilly squawked:

"Smoking in a studio is illegal.

Anything that causes smoke is prohibited.

We would hope that programme-makers make

some form of apology.

It was meant to be a fairly light-hearted

part of the programme, but the law is the law

and it's not appropriate for the BBC,

especially for a programme that's very

popular and seen by a lot of young people,

to be openly flouting the law
."

Just to remind you all, they were smoking herbal tobacco...it is not dangerous and not illegal.

Facts of course do not matter to ASH.

The arrogance of ASH is beyond belief, well deserving "Prats of The Week".

Please drop them a note, with my love, to this address ASH

Layabouts with too much time on their hands, putting their noses into other people's business are a curse upon this nation; that's exactly how Nazi Germany started!

Don't take my word for it, ask Basil:

Fag Off!

Fag Off!Nanny's lackeys in Conwy council achieved something of a double whammy the other day. They managed to slap a fine on a guy not just for smoking in his lorry cab, but also for littering.

Result!

Not only that, but the council lackey that reported the hapless driver was in fact a council dog warden.

What an effective and clever use of resources!

Leonard King was the hapless victim of Nanny's spy culture that has now firmly taken root in our unloved and untrusted local councils. Mr King was having a fag in the cab of his lorry (parked I would hasten to add), which carried a no smoking sign, unfortunately one of Nanny's paid spies (a dog warden) was watching him.

Mr King was in breach of Nanny's recent rules about smoking in an enclosed space that others workmates use. Quite how some stale fag fumes in a cab will harm the next driver is somewhat medically suspect, in my humble view. However, Nanny does not worry about medical facts. Having been spotted smoking, Mr King then compounded his offence against the state by flicking some ash and the fag butt out of the window.

The dog warden immediately noted that down as well, as a littering offence.

Mr King was issued with fixed penalties for smoking illegally in his cab and for littering. Llandudno magistrates fined him £75 and imposed additional charges of £30 for investigative costs, £65 for legal costs and a £15 victim (what victim?) surcharge.

The £75 litter penalty, which he had already paid, took the final bill to £260.

A spokesman for the council in Conwy said its three dog wardens were spearheading the enforcement of smoking laws, and had issued four fixed-penalty notices.

I am sure they must feel very proud of themselves!

Errmm...aren't these guys meant to be dealing with dog related issues?

Doesn't this kind of prove what people have long suspected, namely that council employees are being used to spy on the local population?

The good news is that Conwy will soon give police community support officers the job of chasing smokers, so that's alright then.

Be careful what you do and what you say, the person next to you may work for the local council!

Fag Off

Fag OffNothing brings a lump (or something like that) to my throat more than when I read of ever alert council employees doing their bit to protect the environment.

As such my cockles (can I say cockles?) were thoroughly warmed when I read this story (a month old...sorry about that), about a council employee from Grimsby handing out a £50 fine to couple for littering.

Quite right too!

The only trouble being that they hadn't littered at all...they looked as though they might litter.

Donna Jackson and boyfriend Mark Hewitt were having a fag outside a shop, when they were given a fine for £50 on the basis that they looked as though they would litter.

Donna said:

"We were gobsmacked because it was so ridiculous,

so in protest we both then threw our cigarette ends

on the floor.

We thought if we are going to be fined,

we might as well get our money's worth
."

A warden said in theory smokers could be fined for flicking ash.

You have been warned!

Nanny will now get you for intent to commit a crime, even if Nanny can't prove it.

Nanny Bans Fag Ash

Nanny Bans Fag AshNanny really does seem to have an obsession with smoking, the way that she goes on about it anyone would think that it was bad for you.

Anyhoo, not content with obsessing about the actual smoke produced by a fag, she has now turned her beady little eyes towards the end product of the "deadly weed", that of the ash itself.

Alan Joyce of Lower Parkstone, Poole, got on the wrong end of Nanny in July when he was having a fag in his car.

One of Nanny's ever present spies, ie a council worker, saw him flick some fag ash onto the pavement whilst driving along Sandbanks Road.

Nice to know that council workers throughout the land are now employed as spies by Nanny, isn't it?

Given Nanny's zero tolerance of crime (as we all know muggings, assaults and robberies are now non existent in Britain), Nanny issued Mr Joyce with a £75 fine.

Councillor Don Collier, when asked about this over reaction, said rather robotically:

"The people of Poole won't tolerate littering."

Poole operates a vigilant fixed penalty notice scheme to discover people who are littering our town.
"

I take it then that fag ash remains clearly visible once it has been "flicked" onto a pavement, and that there is no other worse form of litter on the streets of Poole?

Nanny Bans Bonfires Again

Nanny Bans Bonfires AgainGuy Fawkes night has just been and gone for another year; most of us managed to survive it unscathed, despite Nanny's warnings of doom and disaster.

Nonetheless, Nanny's chums in Test Valley Council Hampshire tried their very best to dampen the local residents' attempts to enjoy themselves on the 5th.

The residents were told by Nanny to spend their evening more constructively, composting their garden waste!

In a leaflet, the Test Valley Council, claimed that smoke from bonfires annoyed neighbours, made people ill and drifted over roads.

The council went on to warn that smoke, ash and smell polluted the environment and damaged people's health, especially those suffering from asthma, bronchitis or heart conditions.

It also warned of the dangers posed by bonfires spreading to surrounding fences and shrubs, as well as smoke causing traffic hazards.

The British people have been organising bonfires for the last 400 years, since the Gunpowder Plot was uncovered; we have managed to survive, and the country has yet to be engulfed in flames.

Nanny should really find something better to do with her time.
