Nanny Wants Kung Fu Fighting - UPDATED

You know when things are really bad, and are falling apart, when Nanny suggests that her own citizens be trained in the "genteel" art of street fighting in order to deal with anti social behaviour etc.

Funny that, I thought that's why we pay taxes for a police force?

Evidently I was wrong, and that it is now our responsibility to deal with "low level" crime.

Anyhoo, according to the Telegraph, Ben Rogers (a former Blair adviser), now a visiting fellow at the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, wants people to learn how to restrain offenders, self-defence and how to defuse tense situations.

In  his view, ruling aside the dangers of vigilante gangs, we should show “civic pride”.

Rogers is of the view that the cuts in police budgets means that real police and plastic police are no longer up to the job of protecting us, and that we have to do it ourselves.

Rogers is not alone in wanting people to take the law into their own hands, Nanny's ministers have also said that householders and shopkeepers should be able to use “reasonable force” to tackle burglars.

All very well, maybe, but if the police are so short of staff who exactly is going to train Nanny's citizen army?

Also, given the fact we live in the Nanny state, what about the health and safety implications, insurance issues and risk of being sued?

It is a potty idea that is dangerous, and destined to cause an awful lot of problems if it ever came into being!

"Overnight, a group entered a lock-up without permission in New Addington in Croydon, south London, where Tia disappeared. 

It led to a confrontation between the garage owner and those keen to find her, including a man who was armed, according to the Croydon Advertiser"

PCSO's Fake Fines - Ker Farking Ching!

Congratulations to Nanny for finding a new and breathlessly corrupt way to screw us for money.

Her solution is simple, but seemingly effective, she imposes fake fines on us.

Am I kidding?

No, I am not!

The Evening Standard reports that George McNaught, a police community support officer (plastic policeman) who received an award for bravery three years ago, has been jailed for six months for issuing hundred of false fixed penalty notices.

The Westminster-based PCSO was so desperate for success that he started inventing bogus notices, usually for cycling on the pavement.
McNaught used items of lost property to obtain personal details of members of the public before issuing the penalty notices.

Charming!

Some people rolled over and paid the fines, which start at £45 and quickly increase to £320, while others spent hours arguing about them in court. Bailiffs were even sent to the home of one woman who had been handed a false notice.

It is not known exactly how many false fines he issued. However, those investigating the crime have discovered at least 350 suspect tickets between February 2010 and September 2011.

The report does not say if he wore a hi vis jacket when he issued the fines!

I wonder how many other Nanny enforcement officers are issuing fake fines?

The Dangers of Power

The old adage of power going to some people's heads when they are given a uniform or title seems to be true, judging by this rather bizarre story that I read the other day.

Richard Moore, a police community support officer (PCSO), has been banned from his local pub (The Hop Pole) for "aggressive behaviour".

Mr Moore works as a PCSO for Humberside Police's Haverstoe Neighbourhood Policing Team in Cleethorpes. He was barred from the pub after an alleged outburst towards a female member of staff, who had accidentally short-changed him by £10 earlier this year.

This is Hull and East Riding reports that the barmaid later apologised and gave him the correct money. However, pub staff claim Mr Moore became aggressive and was shouting at the woman and demanding she be strip-searched.

Mr Moore wrote an e-mail of complaint to the area manager of Mitchells And Butlers' Sizzling Pubs, which owns the venue.

She phoned him back, but after an alleged heated exchange, she ordered the pub to ban him for his "aggressive conduct".
 
Humberside Police said:
"Humberside Police were made aware of allegations involving a member of staff.
Inquiries have been conducted internally following these allegations and no further action will be taken."
Rather alarmingly, Nanny is currently considering giving PCSOs further powers.
