Nanny's Park Rangers

Parkie
Nanny's child centric policy has taken another step forward.

She has decreed that all unaccompanied adults walking in Telford Town Park are potential paedophiles. As such, park wardens have been ordered to stop and interrogate anyone who is not accompanied by children.

For fark's sake!

Evidently visitors who are quizzed have to explain their presence and risk being thrown out, or reported to police if their answers are not satisfactory.

"I want to go for a walk"

How the hell can they judge as to whether that answer is "satisfactory" or not???

Nanny's local council (Telford and Wrekin Council) claims that this is a "commonsense approach", aimed at safeguarding children.

It is nothing of the kind, and clearly oversteps the boundaries as to what a council is meant to do.

I guarantee that the local residents have issues wrt refuse collection, and basic amenities being poorly maintained; yet the council meanders off into areas of policy that are outwith its remit.

The local "parkies" have taken to their new Gestapo role with great relish. Evidently two environmental campaigners, dressed as penguins (don't ask!), were thrown out of the park last month when caught handing out leaflets on climate change.

Telford and Wrekin Council said Rachel Whittaker and Neil Donaldson were ejected because they had not undergone Criminal Records Bureau checks or risk assessments before entering the park.

Seemingly this is a requirement under the Child Protection Act.

Errmm...am I drunk?

Have I just read that correctly?

Are they saying that in order to enter a park we now need a risk assessment and criminal records check?

By the way, in case you think that this is another example of Nu labour madness...it is not.

Telford and Wrekin Council is run by the Tories!

David Ottley, recreation manager, said:

"Our town park staff approach adults that are not associated with any children in the park and request the reason for them being there.

In particular, this applies to those areas where children or more vulnerable groups gather
."

By this "logic" all adults accompanied by a child are not paedophiles and are perfectly harmless.

"By this "logic" all adults accompanied by a child are not paedophiles and are perfectly harmless."

So a paedophile who has just abducted a child will not be challenged, while a man walking alone will be challenged.

Statistically, most peadophiles are related to the child and are aged between 16 and 25.

I wonder if people could claim a council tax rebate if they are not allowed to use their local park!!

The country has gone mad....If one looks at the official figures, the incidence of child attacks etc have remained the same for the last fifty years....

It all smacks to me of a frightened population is easier to control than an educated confident one....

The problem is that, if you question this type of policy, one is branded a peadophile or being in favour of abusing children....

What a nasty sad nation we have become.

When I read about this in the paper I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought I must have gone through a time warp, and gone back to April 1st! What is equally unbelievable is that this nonsense has been implemented by a council run by the Conservatives, a party that purportedly believes in defending freedom!
Be that as it may, as I observed recently, it is a fact that not all single men are paedophiles by a long way and, indeed, all paedophiles are not single. Many cases of sexual abuse involve married men, often family members of the victim, so banning single men from parks will not make children any safer, quite the opposite in fact. Interestingly, even the Home Office has stated that the council are overstepping their powers.

"Evidently visitors who are quizzed have to explain their presence and risk being thrown out, or reported to police if their answers are not satisfactory."

And we know how fair, reasonable and helpful they can be, in dealing with innocent members of the public, don't we?

"Telford and Wrekin Council said Rachel Whittaker and Neil Donaldson were ejected because they had not undergone Criminal Records Bureau checks or risk assessments before entering the park."

Risk assessment??? For being in a park? Pass me the sick bag, someone! In recent times I've seen far worse behaviour than dressing up as a penguin, which the authorities consistently turn a blind eye towards.

"The local "parkies" have taken to their new Gestapo role with great relish."

Well, they would, wouldn't they? Let's face it, the kind of person who would take a job involving this kind of nonsense would have been well at home in the Gestapo and similar secret police forces. Hitler, Stalin etc were thoroughly evil, but they would have been unable to 'achieve' what they did, without the support of plenty of ordinary people signing up for these organisations, inadequates whose only happiness came from bullying and terrifying their fellow citizens, and making those people's lives a misery.

It is a public park, paid for by public taxes. Fight nanny back, sue for invasion of privacy, breach of human rights, whatever it takes.

Whilst I feel uncomfortable with the means I have to support the objective here.

As has been pointed out child abuse tends to be contained in families and affect very few children in reality. There are exceptions and they grab headlines but that is mostly because they ARE exceptional. Conversely indoctrinating Penguins (or Polar bears) may seem harmless but can pollute the childhood of many youngsters by their propaganda.

Quite why two adults would want to dress up as Penguins in a park absent any obvious national campaign to do so I don't know. And if they are part of an organised campaign then if all other similar campaigns are currently bound by those rules, no matter how stupid the rules might be, it is clear that the penguins should be equally treated.

My guess is that this publicity is simply a political move being co-ordinated by the HQ of some politically motivated 'charity' using a couple of stooges as the bait.

Apparently Polar Bears will be the primary electors in the USA this year. We just get penguins for 2010?

Suzy Dean has written a piece about this on "The Free Society" site.

I can't believe that this can't be challenged on the grounds that human rights legislation protects the right of individuals to go about their business without harassment. The 'parkies' would then have to have reasonable grounds for suspicion. If 'Liberty' were worth their salt, they'd be fighting this. Indeed, we should all be fighting this.

'Constable Savage' is no longer the stuff of humour.

Well if they cannot yet kick you out of the park for lighting a cigarette this is the next best strategy. Guilt ridden smokers are likely to resort to puffing in the park in order to not expose their little angels to the non-existent dangers of second hand smoke. Since they will, by definition, be unaccompanied by a child - out they go. Anti-smoking by the back door, it's a conspiracy I tell you!!!!!! (insane number of exclamation marks, I have finally cracked).

You say Telford Council is run by Tories. Up to a point, Lord Copper. Telford Council, like all local councils, is actually run by faceless bureaucrats - local government officers, as they like to call themselves, with emphasis on the 'government' - who wrap themselves up in an aura of 'professionalism', and generally can run rings round councillors of any persuasion to promote their own agendas. I know, I used to be one!

OT but a quote from a Home Office lawyer regarding the rights of retired Gurkhas to settle in the UK:-

Mr Kovats replied: "Having a VC is not necessarily a strong tie bringing the entry application within the policy."

Presumably all the people who have settled during the 11 years of uncontrolled mass immigration connived at by Labour have closer ties than soldiers who have won the Victoria Cross serving in Britain's wars?

Jacqui Smith you are an absolute disgrace. What next? Knighthoods for jihadi terrorists?

I think Tonk is spot on when highlighting the significance of a confident vs. a frightened population.

Whether someone perceives a comment or action as harmless / light-hearted or sinister / threatening (requiring a rebuke, counter attack or CRB certificate) usually has a lot to do with confidence levels.

Like the story of the man at the school reunion after a 20-year gap. He walks over to a woman who looks vaguely familiar ...

    “You look like Helen Brown”

“Oh yeah? Well. You look like sh*t in blue!”

Totally agree with DoDG on the Gurkha issue.

  11. If the police were called by the park ranger after 'chalenging' the lone walker - what could / would they do.

  12. Probably arrest the lone walker for wasting police time.

Hang about - what about Hampstead Heath? The GHQ of "Gay" London. I also remember reading thatone local authority had taken upon itself to issue free condoms in its parks to supply gays who frequented such locations. Did all these gays have to carry out a risk assessment and CRB check prior to using the park?
