Educashun - The GCSE In Skydiving

I am glad to see that reports about Nanny's educashun system making exams easier have been proven to be incorrect.

That at least is the conclusion one "might" draw from the fact that Sian Spence (15) is taking the first ever GCSE to include indoor skydiving, after the WJEC exam board agreed to assess her hobby as part of the PE course.

Skydiving will account for 66% of her PE marks.

The exam board is now trying to work out how to asses her.

Hmm, let's see how this all pans out then!

Personally speaking I am in favour of introducing the ancient Chinese civil service exam, whereby candidates were locked in a room for 24 hours with all the paper and ink they needed and were told to write down everything they knew.

Now that's an exam that separates the "men from the boys"!

  1. Indoor sky diving? I wonder where they get the sky from. Perhaps it is ceiling diving.
What next; a GCSE in the bleeding obvious?

nah, the ceiling's falling in on the country. MPs should be sent on a 'rope hanging' course

She could try single handed trans-Atlantic pole vaulting.

  3. The Chinese Imperial examination was not like that at all. It was held in an exam hall and the examinees answered questions drawn from the Chinese classics, passages of which they had to reproduce as well as comment on or explain. If they passed they were guaranteed a government job.

    1. Well there you go then, shows I am the "victim" of a lousy educashun system too by making that error:)

    2. "Indoor Skydiving" - I was under the impression that even the best parachutes needed something in the order of 2-300ft to open and fully deploy. Jump from less and after landing/crashing you will be rather shorter than you used to be....

  4. "Indoor sky diving" doesn't involve parachutes. And looks as if it MIGHT even be fun.

(Other providers are available - do not try this at home even with a REALLY big hair dryer)

Although indoor sky diving is quite ridiculous (is it where you are in a big tube and jets of air come up from the floor?); anything that encourages kids to get out and get involved in an activity has to be encouraged.

If their out of school activities count towards a GCSE then that is a good thing. With the schools insisting on non-competitiveness, and shitting themselves over health and safety, I can only imagine how pathetic normal exams are.

  6. For some of our civil servants these days, a crayon and a Post-It note would be sufficient.

Nanny says that this must be stopped immediately.

It is surely unsafe and unwise to venture into this.

It will all be done by 'simualtion machines' and people can imagine whatwould happen in reality. We can not have this degree of frivolity
