Nanny Bans Common Sense

In  Nanny's universe common sense has long since been abolished.

Step forward Tesco, a company that is currently imploding under the stress of its own idiocy, wherein its staff shouted at a customer to remove her guide dog from its Swiss Cottage branch.

Maya Makri was recently in the Swiss Cottage shop, with her clearly marked guide dog, when she was told by staff to "never come back".

The BBC reports that she said three cashiers shouted "no pets allowed" and to leave the shop.

Tesco said:
"This clearly should never have happened and we will contact Ms Makri directly to apologise."
Why are people, especially when performing their functions in a company/organisation, so devoid of common sense?

  1. Ah yes, but is not a lack of common sense a requirement these days? just look at Tesco's accounts"

  2. Give someone a bit of perceived power and it goes to their head. I suspect the majority of Tesco's employees have very little power in the real world so, when they put on their Tesco uniform, it has the same effect on their brain, as a hi-viz jacket has on the brain of a local authority plank.

Why do humans have a need to boss others about? Live and let live I say.

  3. Is there not maybe an unspoken factor here in the religious beliefs of the staff involved?

What has religious belief got to do with this? If the reports are correct, this is blatant discrimination, not to mention bullying, and those who treated the blind customer in this vile manner should be sacked on the spot, with no payout or pension!
You are quite right, Tonk, if you give the wrong type of person power and authority, and many people with power and authority do indeed appear to be the wrong type of person, they will use their position to bully others.
