Drink Matters!

I see that Nanny is getting rather excised over the amount of booze that "fat" people drink and is pondering reducing the "safe" number of units of booze that she deems to be appropriate for "fat" people to drink.

Her thinking being that "fat" people are already at high risk from liver disease etc, therefore they should not be allowed to drink as much as "norms" lest they increase their risk of illness.

All very well in a dictatorship. However, in theory, we still live in a democracy. Therefore "fat" people can drink as much or as little as they so choose.

I would also note that Nanny's "safe units" are widely regarded as bollocks, because no one human being is the same as another.

Oh and one more small fly in Nanny's oinkment.

A study conducted by the US group Archives of Internal Medicine shows that women can drink and stay slim, according to the study moderate drinkers gain less weight than teetotallers.

Those who drank no alcohol gained the most weight, and there was an inverse relationship between weight gain and alcohol consumption.

Therefore "fat" people (women anyway) should be encouraged to drink more!

  1. I notice that alcohlo often encourages young girls in nightclubs to dance like a pillock.
That must help loose a lot of weight.

I'm a big, fat so-and-so with a BMI of 31 so no doubt Nanny will criticise me for enjoying my evening hot toddy before I go to bed.

However in my defence I'm regarded to be very fit as I swim outdoors in winter in just Speedos and my blubber is part of my winter swimmer's physiological adaptation.

Ooh - swimming outdoors in winter with no protection against the cold. That should get Nanny's 'Elf'n'safety zealots frothing at the mouth!

  4. Gary....lol

Too many single issue groups with too much funding and Nanny giving too much weight to their views...What's the betting that booze will rocket up at the next budget?....For our own good of course.

Great news. We already knew smoking helps you stay thin, now it seems drinking has the same benefit.

If only we could reverse the smoking ban in pubs, could the be the gym of the future? One where you can actually enjoy your time there, fighting the flab?

    ;)

  6. I have at various times in my life gone for long periods drinking no alcohol, interspersed with long periods drinking significant amounts of alcohol (long, boring story).

While I've always hoped that abstaining from alcohol would help me to shed several pounds, I've never noticed it to make the slightest difference one way or another on my weight. So far as I can tell, at least in my case, booze has no effect on BMI or any of that other shite.

    Just one man's opinion.
