The Dangers of Pies

Desperate Dan

I see that the financially opaque, yet vociferous, lobby group the Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) has made a study of 526 pie, mash and gravy products.

They conclude that they are too salty!

Particular venom is directed at the chicken and mushroom pie with chips or mash, gravy and peas from Wetherspoons which contains 7.5g of salt.

Blah blah blah!

Here's a few factoids:

1 Salt is necessary for our survival

2 Those with high blood pressure are able to choose not to eat high salt products

3 Drink plenty of water and exercise properly to bring up a sweat, and you will lose any "alleged excess" salt in your body

4 CASH receive finance from the FSA, which means that a government organ is funding a body which is dedicated to changing government policy. That is not right!

5 Cash do not publish any financial data in their annual reports eg:

- who funds them?
- how much do they receive?
- how much are their office bearers paid?
- what do they spend their money on?

Beware of shouty, opaque self elected pressure groups!

Eat more pies!

  1. As a country, we give far too much weight to single issue groups/organisations often, to the dettrement of the majority.
Why can't they teach kids during their indoctrination period (education in state schools) that if they do everything, including eating all of Nanny's "danger list foods," in moderation, then they will be fine and more than likely live a long life.

Advice to the general population; If you fancy a pie, have one; just don't eat one every day.

When Nanny funds these types of organisations, I suspect they will find results to basically back Nanny's prefered position because he who pays the piper calls the tune or in a modern context; She who funds the research dictates the results.....That is definately the case in relation to the new false religion of climate change for example.

Nanny, likes to control the population and loves to throw her weight around; it is the global progressive Marxist's way.

    Just laugh at Hi-Viz.

Since I have an Italian grandmother and am an avid fan of Italian cuisine I can say with some authority that they use an awful lot of salt in some of their dishes. And yet Mediterranean people seem to have a longer life expectancy:

If nanny is so concerned about salt then why not stop fiddling expenses and allowing obscene levels of corporate tax evasion and use the money retrieved to institute a programme of free gym membership, particularly the steam room so that we can do what Mediterranean people can do freely and sweat the excess salt out. We'd be healthier generally and could healthily eat as much salt as out Mediterranean counterparts.

In fact if you think about it one of the major causes of death is stress, not just because of the exacerbatory effect it can have on underlying medical conditions but because so often it is stress that makes leads to eating disorders and makes people turn to drugs, alcohol etc. Now correct me if I'm wrong but a) isn't nanny less of a force in Italy where they seem to have a more relaxed lifestyle generally and b) I don't know about you guys but if there's one thing that causes me stress it's nanny so once again I advocate banning nanny on health and safety grounds.

    Nanny kills.

  3. Too much ssalt in my system nearly killed me. It did not get there though my eating too much salt however. A stress related hormone imbalance caused a failure to eject salt.
Now I don't have much stress, my adrenal hormones are as they should be and I eat pies, bacon butties, the odd takeaway and anything else I fancy.
Blaming salt is just laziness on the part of doctors, a healthy body can deal with it.

I actually don't like chicken and mushroom pies. However, if I did like them, I would eat them whenever I chose, and disregard any unsolicited 'advice' from some unelected, unaccountable quango or lobby group for the reasons Ken has outlined.

  6. BBC Radio Two were reporting yesterday a 'surprise' report that Europeans were not only living longer than before "despite the obesity epidemic" (and presumably our salt mania) but also living longer than Americans despite their allegedly healthy lifestyle infatuation (not sure if that includes crack whores though).

I've previously mentioned how milk and eggs have been demonised as 'unhealthy' by state appointed tosspots though our grannies knew better, only for those foods to be rehabilitated in recent years (to no-ones great surprise).
