New Laws For OId

Those of you who thought/hoped that the coalition was serious about rolling back the frontiers of the state, and reducing Nanny's control over the minutiae of our lives, will be sorely disappointed to learn that the coalition has actually introduced more laws than it has scrapped.

Our "brave new government" had come up with a "terrific wheeze" of trying to introduce a new law only if an old one was scrapped. Needless to say this plan has failed (the net imbalance of new for old stands at well over 100), as the civil service does its level best to block any attempts to reduce bureaucracy and looks for irrelevant inconsequential old laws to scrap whilst implementing very poorly drafted new laws.

Therefore not only are we seeing more laws created, but those that are created are in fact worse (in terms of quality and negative impact on our lives) than those created under ZaNuLabour.

  1. My own MP here in Wokingham was working on a great repeal bill to rid our country of many of Nu Labour's PC laws, those that hamper our industry and those designed to socially engineer us....Since Cast Iron Dave has got into power and has proven to be a Blair clone, my MP appears to be keeping quiet about it now.

Blu Labour/Nu Labour there is no real choice, just the figure head that changes.

I am a traditional Conservative and I am horrified by Mr Cameron and the direction he has taken the party and our once great nation.

My Tory MP has a job in the Cabinet Office. He is working on encouraging and enabling voters to have a greater role in the political process. He came unstuck when he voted for the government's plan to sell off the forests. His constituents wanted the opposite.
He even offered to post notices on his website for all those who don't have computers.

I quite agree with your evaluation of the 'choices' we have in the British political system, Tonk. It's a case of Tweedledee or Tweedledum! Of course, if people finally decide "a plague on all three of your parties" and vote for someone like the BNP, will they accept that they themselves are to blame? I think not! They will blame everyone and everything EXCEPT themselves! To quote Quark, the Ferengi barkeep in the sci-fi series Startrek Deep Space 9, "The more things change, the more they stay the same."

I'm afraid my only surprise is that any of us ever thought that the ConDems would be different from Nulabour in anything other than colour scheme :-(
