The Value of Consultations

As per Transport for London:
"Over 37,000 responses were received. Around a third of respondents agreed with the proposal to remove cash fares."
In other words two thirds of respondents did not agree with the proposal.

Can you guess children what TfL now intend to do?

Yes, that's right:
"We have made a decision to go ahead with a cashless fare system on London’s buses from summer this year."
Nannyism at its best, if the results of consultations don't match your intended plans then ignore the results.

  1. It is my opinion, that the concept of public service is completely alien to many of those that go into politics and local government indeed, it appears to be more a case of self service and self interest.

I feel, as far as Nanny and her little helpers are concerned, the results, opinions or information obtained from a public consultation is not important. The one thing that matters to Nanny, is the fact that the box saying a consultation has taken place can be ticked and Nanny then wonders why so many people are disinterested in politics or won't engage in the sham we call our democracy.

And the 66.66% of respondents without the pre-approved payment method in hand will either not get on the bus or will ride for free by leaping on and off at the last minute, either way a big cut in revenue.

Quite agree with you, Tonk. Although we do still have some public services, the concept of 'public service' itself appears quite alien to those ruining er, sorry, running them.
Perhaps I'm cynical, but to me, 'public consultation' generally seems to mean that Nanny has already made the decision, but wants to appear democratic by going through the motions. Democracy at its best! (not!).
