Lancashire County Council's Nice Little Earner

My thanks to a loyal reader who pointed me to the absurd nonsense perpetrated by Lancashire County Council, wrt newly painted double yellow lines.

James Callan and his partner Lauren live in a 1995 built house with a driveway, that does not have a dropped pavement outside.

For reasons that are unfathomable, council workers decided to paint some double yellow lines outside their driveway recently.

Problem?

Yes!

Apparently everytime the couple park their car in their own driveway they now face a fine of £1,000.

They have been told they are breaking the law by using the driveway as it is inside the yellow lines, and by attempting to drive on or off their own land they will be making an illegal "vehicle crossing".

Yellow lines should be placed where it is unsafe to park. Anyone stupid enough to park on these yellow lines should have their cars removed, and have to pay a fee to get them back.

But if it is safe to park, then why have any restrictions at all?

The councils are responsible for the roads, but they do not own them and should not be able to use them to raise revenue.

The councils are the enemies of the people.

This needs someone to go to one of the big media organizations and tell them the story......The council will slam it into reverse and do one of their; " hehehe, it's just a big misunderstanding u-turns."

Nanny spends too much and is now getting desperate to fill her coffers.....Motorists, homeowners and the little people are the preferred targets of local Nanny but, we must fight back because they're supposed to work for us, not against us.

We need far less government at all levels.

  3. We were told that aura of the yellow lines extends 7 metres - after 4 months of nasty threatening letters from the council parking department - the Traffic Penalty Tribunal did not agree with the council's goons.

In all a result - but frankly the tone and antics of the officials should have attracted some sanction - they were wrong, did not apologize - and showed bad faith and aggression all though the process.
