Nanny Bans Crusaders

Nanny Bans Crusaders
Remember the old rhyme:

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"?

Evidently that is no longer the case, as "The Middlesex Crusaders" a cricket team of 10 years standing have found to their cost.

They have been forced to change their name after protests from Jewish and Muslim communities, who said they felt it was a reference to the religious wars waged by Christians in Europe against other faiths.

I might be a little more sympathetic to the complaint, ie believe that it was not just trouble making, if it had been raised 10 years ago and if the same complaint is levelled against every other organisation, eg pubs, in Britain that uses the name Crusader.

In a further twist of irony the Middlesex Crusaders have played and won against the Kent Spitfires. Will there also be complaints from resident Nazis about the use of the word "Spitfire"?

One other small point, the word "crusader" can also mean "a disputant who advocates reform".

  1. Maybe the order of The Tutonic Knights might be more acceptable. Went on Crusades but mostly in Eastern Europe.

How is the modern Jewish invasion of Palestine any different from the Christian invasion of 1000 years ago? (other than being by members of a different religion, obviously)

There is no such place as "Palestine".

The problem is that there are always PC idiots that will take action just incase one group or another may get offended....In the version of this story that I read, the alledged potential victims, when asked, said they were not offended at all.

There does seem to be an increase in the number of people, often within the public sector, that are prepared to be instantly offended or shocked on behalf of others. Why don't these people just ask them if they actually are offended, in most cases, I suspect they won't be as this PC rubbish just causes divisions and we are starting to see the start of a backlash against this type of thing.

  5. I find it hard to believe that anyone who was presumably pre-armed with a cricket bat didn't just give this "request" the percussive response that it deserved.

Not long now before any noun is unacceptable and the only legal word the human race may use is "ug".

Then, subject to the constraints of Elfin Safety, perhaps we should retreat to the trees and nibble off these "opposable thumbs", they've been nothing but trouble.

Sorry, that was anti-thumbist of me.

  6. Surely nowadays crusaders are a minority group so perhaps someone could get these idiots for being 'crusaderist' ? Would love to see it happen :)

Reminds me of the Ross/Brand affair, apparently, there were only two complaints until some journalist mentioned it in the paper next day!!

Better still, why don't these political correctness parasites get off their (often gold-plated) backsides and do something useful for once in their lives?

Yes, lets surgically remove their suit, collar and tie than graft on some overalls. Next stick them in front of a workbench and give them an intensive three-day course
covering the correct way to hold and use a screwdriver, then put them to some useful work.

Or would that be infringing their "yuman rights"?

What law were they breaking or indeed what rule or regulation were they breaking? If the answer to both questions is none,. why don't they tell the complainants to f*** off.

  11. nanny does not actually "ban" much of what we read about in the press.
Years ago, ladies wore fur coats and although hunting animals for fur, was banned they couldn't ban the wearing of fur coats.
Ladies were "shamed" into not wearing fur coats.
This is all that is happening today. People are being made to "feel" guilty for saying this or saying that......or doing this or that. It is not legally wrong to be a Crusader, it may not be morally wrong to be a Crusader (depends on your morals). It is only wrong in the (blind) eyes of the PC brigade.

" Oh bugger - that's one of my schoolboy heroes gone for a burton - Batman the Caped (censored)!"

Errm, well, they could rename themselves to something like the Middlesex Batmen and have a name that relates to their sport.

Perhaps they could award Capes (rather than Caps) to their players.
