The Electric Commode II

Dear Loyal Readers,

Regarding the remarkable speed with which details about the man with exploding underpants have appeared in the media, and the fact that he was on a "watch list" yet still granted a visa, there can only be one conclusion to be drawn about how he was able to almost detonate his underpants.

Someone somewhere, wanted him to get through the security net.

I would not dream of speculating here.

However, I would note that there are elements on the extreme right of US politics who will make as much use as they can out of this "security failure" in order to damage President Obama.

I am of course a simple Brit, who does not have any real understanding about how politics works in the USA.

Happy New Year!

  1. Interesting speculation, perhaps we should look closer to home to the extreme Labour government. Looks like he was corrupted by the state madras education system in this country first.

This is much wider than US politics isn't it?

    Much speculation elsewhere on tinterwebs.

  3. I read in the last few hours that Obama's approval rating is the lowest ever for any president at this stage of their first term. Some going! Except that when you have millions of people expecting a miracle worker with a magic wand you just know that you will shortly see millions of people who are going to be very disappointed.

There are plenty of people who might see a benefit from such an event occurring at this time. They will come in all political hues.

I notice that Brown has been quick off the mark to point out the UK's largesse to Yemen and instructions about further public control freakery by deploying full body scanners.

Presumably he sees multiple benefits including reduced CO2 emissions when people stop flying. One incident and so many advantageous opportunities for those who would remove personal freedoms - whatever they were when they existed.

Interesting theory, but I don't agree that it is necessarily those on the extreme right who are a danger. There are plenty on the extreme left who wish to control our every move, as well. The pending cap and trade legislation is a good example. Also, some on the extreme left are quite displeased with Mr. Obama as he hasn't been left enough for them so might seek to bring him down.

Also, human incompetence knows no bounds, so it is not beyond the realm of possibility that a bunch of people really just screwed up here.

  5. I find it very interesting that the full body scanners being tested in Manchester airport that met such disapproval several months ago are now back on the cards, because of the security benefits they might provide.

How *interesting* that is, and how *convenient* for Brown and this Orwellian government.

    total paranoia!
