Well done Southampton City Council, or at least one of its employees, for winning "Prats of The Week".
For why?
One of their employees banned an 82 year old woman amateur photographer from taking a photo of an empty swimming pool.
Why?
She might be a paedophile!
Betty Robinson was ordered to put away her camera by a council worker, when she began taking pictures of the outdoor pool.
She was with a friend, Brenda Bennett, and was taking pictures of the city's common where the pool was located.
Southampton City Council apologised but said:
"It is appropriate that our staff are aware of who is taking photos."
No it's not!
The council have no business spying on people...PERIOD!
Well deserving Prats of The Week.

Sadly, as a nation, we have been conditioned to believe the following:-
ReplyDelete1) There is a peadophile in every bush looking for "unattended" children.
2) There is a terrorist on every street waiting to blow us up.
3) The world will end if we don't stop producing carbon.
These have all been promoted by Nanny to frighten the lives out of us so that we are easier to control.
We should all make it our business to make as many covert photographs and recordings of Nanny abusing her powers as possible. There should really be an Independent National Nanny Watchdog where such reports could be filed and broadcast with suitable "naming and shaming" for those concerned.
ReplyDeleteWe need names and faces for these anonymous guardians of prattery.
What I am proposing is a veritable witchhunt where the tables are well and truly turned on Nanny. The 82 year old lady should have collapsed to the ground in shock - then the Nazi stormtrooper who accosted her could have been arrested and charged with assault. Bastards all of them.
Dixon of Dock Green:
ReplyDeleteEvening All!!
I agree, a Nanny Watchdog would be great......Sounds like a job for that well known anti Nanny campaigner....oh what's his name/....ah yes...Ken Frost....He has an internet empire and could post the materials received on a new site called Nanny Watch.
Night All!!
Tonk:
ReplyDeleteSadly, that is exactly what they want to do. A frighted society is a compliant one.

Ken: I don't suppose you want to examine your council's accounts do you? In detail - including contracts, receipts, invoices etc?

Read this - much better than the FoI Act is the Audit Commission Act 1998.

Can also do the same with police authorities nationwide.
If you are obstructed in your enquiries, then whoever obstructs has committed a CRIMINAL offence, not a civil one.
If you missed their (legally required) advert telling you where and when the books will be available, just phone accounts up and ask them. I had to do that when I couldn't find the info on the council web site. They had advertised it just the once in a local giveaway paper that doesn't get to half the houses, and which hardly anyone reads anyway 'cos it's junk. On May 10th, for accounts available from July 28th for 20 days.
A cynic might think they didn't want anyone to know. From Monday I'll be spending the best part of the next three weeks in the Civic Hall. Wonder if we have any ginger-haired one-legged feminist lesbian single-mother groups and/or the like in this area, and how much public money they're getting?
DODG - I'll be checking out how much money is eaten by the department of that old acquaintance of yours, Elliot Brown.
As well.
Dixon and Tonk
ReplyDeleteI am more than happy to set such a site up.
However, in order to do it I will need stuff to put on it.
When I receive sufficient to form "critical mass" I will do so.

Quite correct, Tonk, this really hits the nail on the head. The sad thing is that this has had the effect that many adults, who used to involve themselves with children's activities, in such roles as Scout and Guide leaders, for example, are simpy too scared to do so these days for fear of being accused of being a paedophile. What kind of sick society have we degenerated into when, even in primary schools, if a child falls over teachers and other staff dare not comfort the child or even apply a plaster? Southampton City Council well deserve to be awarded the title
'Prats of the Week'! How can photographing an EMPTY swimming pool qualify someone as a paedophile? The women should have told this council busybody to '----off!' Moreover, this prat should have been sacked on the spot. What's the betting that they are more likely to be promoted?
