Guilty Until Proven Innocent - The Dangers of Mothers
As we know, Nanny has managed to convince all and sundry that every child in Britain is under diabolical threat from predators, incompetents and psychos. The atmosphere of fear that this engenders enables Nanny to supply all manner of "safety" checks and "public" services. These generate her massive amounts of extra revenue, justify her existence and keep the unwashed population (that's you and me folks!) under control.
Here is a fine example of how Nanny has taken control of even the most normal of everyday activities, namely that of a mother taking her son to school.
Jayne Jones had been taking her 14 year old epileptic son Alex each day to school by taxi, she also took with her specialist equipment in case he had a fit.
All well and good until Nanny stuck her bony old nose into the matter. Mrs Jones has now been told that this activity must stop until her details had been run through a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check.
Mrs Jones, from Aberfan in south Wales, said:
"It's crazy that I have to be CRB checked before I can ride in a taxi with my own son.
I have to be checked to go in a taxi with him, but if I was able to drive him myself they wouldn't care and even offered to pay me expenses.
The taxi company is great and they carry Alex's medication but they won't use it and they wouldn't know how to put him in the recovery position if needs be."
Alex takes a combination of 32 anti-convulsant tablets a day, and is currently travelling to his special needs school in Merthyr Tydfil with no one trained to cope if he has an attack.
He has been fitted with the Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy system under the skin, which works like a pacemaker to help control electrical signals which can malfunction and cause him to seize.
His parents are the only ones trained to use and understand the therapy. Yet the council still wants the CRB check.
A spokesman from Merthyr Tydfil Council said:
"The CRB checking is a requirement of our transport provisions in relation to adults travelling on home-to-school transport in the capacity of an escort.
This is a standard requirement and has been for several years.
Any adult acting as an escort will, in the public gaze, be viewed as acting with the full acquiescence of the council and hence with its implied authority.
For the protection of the council and all vulnerable persons in its care it's essential all those endowed with an authority, implicit or explicit, should meet the security requirements within the transport contract provisions."
I read the above several times, and must confess I haven't a clue what he is talking about and how that really justifies a CRB check on the kid's mother.
The real reason behind the waffle, I suspect, is that the CRB check will generate revenue for Nanny.

So let's get this straight, Nanny receives the commodity (Child) from his mother, Nanny takes him to school in the taxi, educates him and then brings him home and HANDS HIM BACK to the person (Mother) that has not been cleared with a criminal record check?
ReplyDeleteThis is sheer stupidity.....Will all would be parenets in time have to be CRB checked before being given a license to breed? UUmmmm possible revenue opportunity here for the license...Kerching!! Perhaps the state should just remove the kids from parents at birth!!....Some advantages for Nanny.....She could brainwash them into her way of thinking.....The parents could instantly return to work and thus keep paying tax...Kerching.
This is the Nanny state gone barking mad.
Is it me or does anyone else feel that children are seen as a comodity these days by many organisations?
The only odd thing here is that the council spokesdrone didn't say "we cannot discuss individual cases".
ReplyDeleteSo are you telling me, that a women can not get her child safely to school in the manner of her own choosing without getting a bckground check, tho no specific charges are brought against her? How do they get away with this level of interference? I'm with you, Ken. I have no idea what the council spokesman is on about.
ReplyDelete"Any adult acting as an escort will, in the public gaze, be viewed as acting with the full acquiescence of the council and hence with its implied authority."
The "public gaze" could not give a toss.
This is bureacracy at the cutting edge. This is when policy and regulations fail to interact with real life. Knives, guns and bombs are dangerous we all know that, but so is paper and the way it is pushed around desks.
ReplyDeleteCouncils are becoming quite scary institutions inhabited by mini-Mugabes. I have also noticed how the langauge they use on occasions such as "This behaviour will not be tolerated" etc. It makes me feel that they are boss and we must all cower to their demands. When in actual fact we are the boss.
The spokesman's waffling reminds me of the old saying "If you can't blind them with science, baffle them with bullshit".
ReplyDeleteOK Ken, it's been great so far but really, this is stretching credibility a bit too far.
ReplyDeleteEven Hollywood and its Welsh extremists sect (The bird from Swansea married to the old bloke and the family battering guy who wears a lot leather face masks) could not make up scripts like this with or without the screen writer's guild.
And then there was the cigar story.
Should we assume this is simply a xenophobic anti-Welsh streak currently in your possession? After all it is obvious, isn't it, that no 'authority' will expect to check for the possible criminal record of a parent accompanying his or her child to school. Will they?
It IS obvious, isn't it?
Someone?
Anyone?
Please tell me it is obvious ....
Grant
Mmmmm, I see on the CRB website that the CRB may ask you to provide fingerprints as part of the checking process......That's interesting isn't it?
ReplyDeleteEven if the 'public gaze' assumed council acquiescence - what relevance has this. The public assume all sorts of things.
ReplyDeleteThe public is not a legal body.
What means can the council use to enforce their view?.
Especially without extending potential hazard to the child.
in response to one of the primary comments. Indeed it is the case that organisations regard children as commodities. I worked for a care home in Bristol the culture of which referred to the children in their care as 'units', apparently to preserve professional detachment. This care home was receiving at least £3500/w (up to 9K for particularly troublesome 'units') for the care of their charges. WHAT!! The hell is going on? This is very big business. Oh - and of course I had to get a CRB which took three months. Hrmm -
