Nanny Bans Clothes

Nanny Bans Clothes
Environmental zealots running Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire have put their noses into the usually very private matter of funerals (cremations to be precise), and have ruled that the clothing of the deceased must comply with their/EU pollution laws.

Thus those families who want to cremate their relatives in their favourite football shirts or with soft toys (for children) have had their wishes overruled.

Kirklees Council is the only authority in the country to adopt the approach, according to a national cremation body.

Those who use cremation must spend £60 on natural-fibre shrouds.

The council demand that:

"If a family wishes to cremate their loved one in anything other than a shroud, the funeral director should contact bereavement services so this can be discussed to clarify what type of garments the family wish to use."

Even 100% cotton is banned, Kirklees Council argue that natural fibre clothing could contain man-made dyes or fibres that will impact on emissions.

I would therefore ask, given the alleged "risk" to the environment of burning non Nanny type clothes, why is Nanny allowing coffins (and indeed bodies) to be burned at all?

Surely this constitutes an emission threat?

Why not go the whole hog, and demand that bodies be dipped in a bath of acid?

Whilst in the harsh reality of a universe in which there is no afterlife and no god (my view) what the deceased wears makes no difference in a practical sense, in a personal sense to those families who want some form of comfort to justify human existence this is an unnecessarily cruel rule.

We should, whilst we exist, try to treat each other with a little kindness and empathy; there is nothing to follow once we have breathed our last.

  1. This is one of the most worrying of Nanny's many interventions in people's lives.
Not content with dictating what someone can be cremated in, they have also interfered in many other areas of the dead.
They have carried out 'Elf'n'Safety work on gravestones and then vandalised them with supports and props....They have in many areas banned kerbstones around graves and in some cases, they have banned all grave stones and markers. Some places have even banned flower vases on graves.
Mr Brown wants people to have to give their organs to Nanny's NHS unless they opt out....Not just during our lifetime does Nanny want to farm us but after our death as well!!

I see the main justification for banning people from being buried in clothing is that great Nanny's coverall of The new religion of climate change.....Between that reason, 'elf'n'safety and security, Nanny has managed to ban or boss people into being compliant mindless drones.

I wonder if a national newspaper would be interested in finding out how many of Nanny's friends have vested interests in the new false religion of climate change....How many of them are directors of companies that make so called green products or will get valuable government contracts as we become more strictly ruled by the green fascists.

  2. Tonk,

I believe the answer to your question about Nanny's friends will be 'Most of them'.

There is no easier way to market a 'new' and expensive product whilst making old products obsolete than having the changes mandated by law.

There is no cheaper way than helping to subsidise election campaigns or sinecure directorships. Now the expenses trough is drying up expect to see more of this.

The US has Gore and others who have worked out how to grab a short term gain.

The EU has an entire bureacracy dedicated to filching money from new sources to support its parasitical nature.

The UK has a few similar characters including the likes of John Gummer and his companies.

I see one of Cameron's spokesmidgets has been quoted today as criticising the government for not doing enough to reduce carbon emissions by setting stricter targets. Should any one really be voting for these people?

  3. Ken,

I've been clinging to the hope of an eternity spent in Paradise (ie. an eight-dimensional realm ruled by some transcendently spiritual being, rather than Nanny). Your latest comments have brought me down.

Ah well, I suppose I'll have to place my faith in Gaia.

And there are still cretins out there who say that being in the EU is a postive thing. Tell that to the parents of a child who cannot even send their kid off with a stuffed toy because of some arsehole in brussels.

Frau EU nanny cracks the whip and Nanny Smith in Britain jumps to it.

Climate change agenda and all otehr 'green' bullshit such as HIPS to get us ready for carbon tax on our homes is EU driven. Look up the directives. I have and it is frightening the power that they have and are gaining by the day.

Grant, I cannot see that voting for any of the big three parties is anything other than a vote for more EU/green/we know best for you laws.

Cameron talked tough on the EU as did his slap head mate Hague, but they are already paving the way to roll over on the constitution and allow the scum bags in Brussels even more control over our lives.

The EU is the ultimate nanny state, making even Broon's socialists look like free market liberterians.

Just when I thought that Nanny couldn't stoop any lower, I am proved wrong, yet again! To interfere with people who are grieving is just sick: but then some of the creeps running this country are sick b******s, let's face it!

Ken said: ".....Why not go the whole hog, and demand that bodies be dipped in a bath of acid?"

A much better idea, Ken, would be to lower the jerks who thought up this idea into a bath of acid, SLOWLY!! Of course, in my day, they would have been top of the bill at the Collosseum, or providing the motion for a slave galley!

Which is why I voted UKIP in the recent European elections, as I did 4 years ago. The only reason I don't do so at a general election is that with the 'first past the post' electoral system, it seems to me (rightly or wrongly) that it would be a 'wasted' vote.
It also seems likely that Cameron may not be going to make much of a fuss over the proposal that Tony Blair is appointed EU president!
As leader of the opposition, he ought to be more proactive in opposing these insidious developments.

    Julius,

I am going to vote UKIP at the nationals as it is a vote from conscience in that I despise the EU and want us free from its uber nanny control state.

UKIP will not win the election, but if enough of us vote for them they will gain MPs and scare the shite out of the major parties.

And, as I said to vote for any of the others is to vote for more EU control as they are all on board with the 'project.'

    Hi all
    Have you heard about this?

Bosses on Tameside Council are planning to use the heat generated from cremating bodies to keep the mourners warm at Dukinfield Crematorium!

You can read the full story here:

    Utterly disgraceful isn't it?

Anon - using the furnace to both cremate and service the central heating is already widespread (I don't find it offensive, actually, as I don't think that it shows any disrespect to the dead).

As for acid baths, I think that the Swedes already liquefy bodies.

I really, really wish councils would realise that we pay them money to provide services WE want NOT to bully us into doing what they (or politicians) think we should do.

To do this over a bereavement just shows how sick come council employees are. If they can find any way to force something down our necks they will. Talk to them & they sit there pleasantly smug that they have found a rule to quote that shows they were "right" to make the decisions they did.

I'm testing my new mobile phone today. It seems to do everything short of making the tea, so when it came to its web browser I thought: 'if it can handle NKB it can handle anything'. It passed with flying colours. However, whilst zooming in and out I noticed a Google ad for turning cremation ashes into glass to “Keep the memory”.

For goodness sake! How much further can the recycling concept be taken? Would they do a special deal to recycle someone into a set of marbles for the grandchildren to play with?

If I had a choice between being recycled into a piece of glass to set on the mantelpiece or being scattered across a council landfill site, I'd encourage the latter. There comes a time when you just have to say: “enough is enough - time to hang up the boots - it's been a good innings but ... it's time to move on”.

Anyway, as a special tribute to the fact that summer is well and truly upon us, I've decided to do my bit to save the planet by putting on an extra pullover today instead of going for the easy option of switching on the central heating.

    Happy Summer Solstice everyone!

The 1678 Burial in Wool Act said that: 'No corpse of any person shall be buried in any shirt, shift, sheet or shroud or anything whatsoever, made or mingled with flax, hemp, silk, hair, gold or silver, or in any stuff or thing other than what is made of sheeps wool only'.
The penalty for not doing so was £5, equivalent to some £600 today.

Striding forward into the past, Nanny could make this a nice little earner. She has already brought back the window tax and fireplace tax under the guise of Council Tax band revisions.
