Nanny Extends Adolescence Until 24

Nanny, or rather a group of scientists writing in the Lancet, has decreed that adolescence now lasts from the ages of 10 to 24.

Changing the definition is vital to ensure laws stay appropriate, they write in an opinion piece in the Lancet Child & Adolescent Health journal.

Well that is all very well and dandy, but given that the age of consent is 16 and that 18 year olds can join the army, have a credit, card, vote and drink how can Nanny at the same time call them adolescents?

It is not good to infantalise young people, all it does is make them less responsible for their own lives and more dependent on the state!

To make them more dependent on the state is the very point of doing this.

  2. This is ridiculous and so is the state. Evil browbeating and the political class is dead.

    I'm happy.
By my calculations middle age now starts at about the age of 65.

Really? How many 130-year-olds do you know??

  4. To be honest, I think they are probably correct to shift the boundaries. Most of the people of my generation I know could hold a discussion with people holding opposing ideas without feeling threatened and needing to no-platform them. They don't get anxious over the tiniest little thing and can form their own opinions. Personally I could fix a truck, hunt and survive the outdoors by the age of 12, could rationally debate a number of subjects by the age of 15 and set out into the world to fend for myself by the age of 18 with a wide range of knowledge. By the age of 24 I had fought in a war (I don't entirely recommend it as a lifestyle choice) and had formed adult opinions. Nowadays I see a lot of five year olds in grown up bodies, unable to accept even the slightest difference of opinion, unable to cope, who go into meltdown if they are 'triggered' by the most trivial things or if Twitter goes down and who throw a hissy fit if their soy latte is a degree too warm and who whine about the unfairness of their lot instead of going out and grabbing life by the balls like we did. Yes, we made mistakes, sometimes got hurt but we learned from it. We didn't crumple and demand a safe space.
