Lockdowns Were a Colossal Policy Failure

Unsurprisingly it is now confirmed that Nanny's lockdowns were a colossal policy failure.

Lockdown saved as few as 1,700 lives in England and Wales in spring 2020, according to a landmark study which concludes the benefits of the policy were “a drop in the bucket compared to the staggering collateral costs” imposed.

Scientists from Johns Hopkins University and Lund University examined almost 20,000 studies on measures taken to protect populations against Covid across the world.

Their findings suggest that lockdowns in response to the first wave of the pandemic, when compared with less strict policies adopted by the likes of Sweden, prevented as few as 1,700 deaths in England and Wales. In an average week there are around 11,000 deaths in England and Wales.

The report authors said their findings showed that the draconian measures had a “negligible impact” on Covid mortality and were a “policy failure of gigantic proportions”.

Johns Hopkins is one of the most respected medical schools in the world and became known during the pandemic for its Covid dashboard measuring cases and deaths all over the world.

The study’s authors conclude:

“The science of lockdowns is clear; the data are in: the deaths saved were a drop in the bucket compared to the staggering collateral costs imposed.”

The detrimental impact of lockdown on children’s health and education, on economic growth and its contribution to large increases in public debt has become increasingly clear since the policy was introduced.

EU Fuckwits Try To Ban Twitter

The fuckwits running the EU are so pissed off with the fact that Twitter allows people to post things that the EU doesn't like, that it is seeking to ban it.

They are so fuckwitted in the EU that they haven't twigged that any ban is easily circumvented by the use of VPN.

Irish Nanny Hates Alcohol

Irish Nanny is set to introduce new alcohol labelling rules that will require all alcoholic beverages to carry health warnings about the risks of drinking. The new rules, which were approved by the Irish government in September 2022, will come into effect in 2026.

The labels will include three key messages:

  • Drinking alcohol causes liver disease.
  • There is a direct link between alcohol and fatal cancers.
  • Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause harm to the unborn baby.

The labels will also include the number of calories and grams of alcohol in each serving.

The Irish government says that the new labels are a necessary step to reduce the harmful effects of alcohol consumption. Alcohol is a major risk factor for a number of health problems, including liver disease, cancer, and heart disease.

My sympathies to the good people of Ireland, this will not make any difference to the amount that people drink it will merely increase the costs!

Greggs Beats Met Ban on Sausage Rolls

Greggs has won its battle with the Metropolitan Police over plans to sell sausage rolls and other hot food late at night in its flagship Leicester Square store.

The bakery chain had applied for a 24-hour licence for the store, but the Met objected, saying it was concerned about the potential for increased crime and disorder.

However, a licensing sub-committee of Westminster Council has now approved the application, saying it was satisfied that Greggs had put in place adequate measures to prevent problems.

These include the installation of CCTV, the employment of security guards and the removal of seating from the store.

The decision is a victory for Greggs, which has been keen to offer late-night food to customers in the busy Leicester Square area.

It is also a setback for the Met, which had argued that the extended opening hours would lead to an increase in crime and disorder.

The decision is likely to be welcomed by many people who work or live in the area, who will now be able to get a Greggs sausage roll at any time of day or night.

It is also a boost for the bakery chain, which has been facing increasing competition from other food retailers.

The decision is likely to set a precedent for other businesses in the area, which may now be more likely to apply for late-night licences.

The decision is also likely to be welcomed by the local council, which is keen to see the area become more vibrant and attractive to visitors.

Nanny Bans Greggs Sausage Rolls

Greggs has fallen foul of Nanny and is preparing for a court fight against its ban on selling late night sausage rolls and bacon baps at its flagship Leicester Square store.

The baker was refused permission to trade hot food 24 hours a day last year after the Met argued that the extended opening times could lead to a wave of “crime and disorder”. The Met, I would have thought, has more pressing internal matters to address rather than fret over sausage rolls.

Anyhoo, Nanny is worried that the 24 hour Greggs will cause problems if people are allowed to eat sausage rolls there (rather ignoring the fact that a hungry drunk is more aggressive than a full one).

A three-day court hearing has now been scheduled for May 16, 17 and 18 where Greggs will appeal the decision not to allow it to serve up hot food after 11pm at the West End location.

The absolute nonsense of this ban can be seen by the fact that the majority of the food sold by Greggs is made at industrial bakeries and then re-heated. Shops do not need a licence to sell them because they are not kept hot in store.

However the  other cooked products, such as bacon baps, sausage breakfast rolls and potato wedges, as well as tea and coffee, needs special permission from the local authority to be sold between 11pm and 5am.

As such, the Met and council have banned some food but not other food.

Greggs said customers could become “confused” if its full menu was not available to them all evening and would be more likely to cause trouble.

As noted, the Met has more than enough internal issues to worry about. Given that it can't see the absurdity of banning some food but not other food, I doubt that it has a chance in hell of being able to rectify its internal problems!

Nanny Bans Brecon Beacons

The Brecon Beacons National Park has got its collective eco knickers in a twist over the word "beacon" in its name.

For why?

Well you see children it doesn't fit in the the net zero bollocks that we are all meant to believe in (beacons emit carbon). As such the prats running the park will rename it Bannau Brycheiniog.

Will the change of name lower carbon emissions?

Will it fuck!

Nanny Bans Mother and Father

Nanny's chums in Oxfam have decreed that "mother" and "father" are offensive words, and as such has banned them.

Oxfam has urged staff to avoid the terms “mother” and “father” and instead use “parent” following the publication of its Inclusive Language Guide.

Other banned words include "headquarters" (apparently it smacks of power).

Oxfam can stick its Newspeak guide up its arse!

Dahl Classic vs Dahl "Lite"

Puffin UK has announced they are to release Roald Dahl books without any changes, following major criticism.

The publishers decision to amend the language used in the classic children’s author’s books was universally slammed by all and sundry.

The latest editions were to be edited to remove potentially offensive language.

The classic collection will sit alongside the newly-released Roald Dahl books for young readers, which have been rewritten to cater for the sensitivities of modern audiences.

In other words Puffin has pulled a marketing sleight of hand, by offering two versions of the same book.

Prats of The Week - The Church of England

Seemingly Church of England bishops are to debate whether God should be gender neutral - even dropping “our Father” from the Lord's Prayer.

To quote something, someone once allegedly said:

Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing!

Prats of The Week - Haringey Council

For reasons best known to itself, Nanny's chums from Haringey Council spent £180,000 on changing the name of Black Boy Lane to La Rose Lane.

Despite the feigned offence at the name, the council left the name on the new road sign.

Unsurprisingly it has been corrected, and people living in the street have put up their own Black Boy Lane signs in their windows.

Haringey Council, well deserving Prats of The Week!

Office Cakes As Dangerous as Passive Smoking!

Bringing cake into the office should be seen as harmful to your colleagues in the same way as passive smoking, the chairwoman of Britain’s top food watchdog has said.

Professor Susan Jebb, professor of diet and population health at the University of Oxford and a member of The Times Health Commission, said it was not enough to rely on the “extraordinary efforts” of personal willpower needed to avoid overeating in a society that is constantly plying people with food.

“We all like to think we’re rational, intelligent, educated people who make informed choices the whole time and we undervalue the impact of the environment.

If nobody brought in cakes into the office, I would not eat cakes in the day, but because people do bring cakes in, I eat them. Now, OK, I have made a choice, but people were making a choice to go into a smoky pub.”

I don't smoke cake,

I don't eat cake,

I don't feel threatened by people eating cake!

Nanny Bans "Field" - It's Racist!

A bunch of wankers in America have decreed that the word "field" is racist.

The word "field" has been declared to have racist connotations and will no longer be used in the University of Southern California’s school of social work.

It will be removed from the curriculum and academic references such as "field of study" will instead be replaced  by the word "practicum".

In a letter explaining the decision the University of Southern California’s school of social work said:

"This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that would be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant in favour of inclusive language.

Language can be powerful, and phrases such as ‘going into the field’ or ‘field work’ maybe have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign.”

This is of course deranged bollocks, as white people have also worked in fields ever since farming was invented.
