The Dangers of Blu-Tack

Prats!
Do you realise how dangerous Blu-Tack is?

I must admit that I didn't!

That is I didn't know of its dangers, until I read in a survey of teachers that some unnamed teacher (prat I would say) at an unnamed school told staff and children to wear goggles when handling Blu-Tack.

Why are people like this allowed anywhere near children?

The only health and safety advice I was given at school (outwith operational instructions in the chemistry lab), when I was a nipper, was to hold scissors by the sharp end and not to run with them.

Eminently sensible advice, which I still follow to this day!

Scissors? You were lucky! They wouldn't trust us with scissors...we had pricks! Can anyone else remember those classic instructions from the teacher...

"Okay class get your pricks out!" ?

I'm serious! In our desks, we each had a prick (which looked like a pencil, but had a VERY sharp point) and a felt pad. We would 'cut' things out by pricking holes around the outline and then tearing around the perforations. Yes we also had individual slates and chalk...and No, I'm not THAT old!

Those pricks must have been one of the first things to be banned by those pricks.

  4. This is hilarious!
Talking of schools... my friend is attending her son's 'Junior Activity Afternoon' this afternoon. No cheering from the sidelines allowed.
In my day it was called Sports Day and your Mum went crazy for you to win :-D.
    Bah humbug.

  5. My sister in law has to sign a form about allergies for her 3 year old to go to nursery. One of the things they want her to confirm is if she is allergic to COTTON WOOL.

    *blink*

Blue-tack is dangerous???? By no means as dangerous as the prats who come up with nonsense like this!

The problem is this; The mindless drones will obey and thus kids will believe it is "normal" to wear eye protection when using blutack.

This morning, a large group of school kids went past my door in crocodile fashion on their way to the local sports centre....Every child and each of the adults with them, were wearing Nanny's well loved hi viz vests....They were walking on the path and there is a four foot wide grass verge between the pavement and the quiet residential road, I think Nanny must have shares in the company that makes these hi viz vests as all her staff and everyone connected with her seems to have one..

  8. Why are pencils allowed. We used to sharpen and then fence with them. I've still got some pencil lead in my flesh now.

Oh, am I allowed to say that on the internet?

  9. Back in the 40s and 50s we took a certain pride in having the most mad teacher. I think they used to often make up idiosyncrasies as a sort of show biz.
In my first school the women teachers often developed pimples , swelled up and left. It seemed the custom back then. This was during the war of course.
