Prats of The Week - The Home Orifice

Prats of The WeekOoh I feel another Prats of The Week Award "coming upon me".

This time it goes to our ever "popular" and "efficient" Home Orifice.

For why?

Well loyal readers, wayback last April when the G20 protests were underway, a group of "anarchists" were nicked for impersonating police officers.

Some months later the Home Orifice, in its infinite wisdom, continues to pursue these "miscreants" through the courts for their "crime" of impersonating the police.

Now under normal circumstances I would totally agree with HO on this one, impersonating a police officer is a very serious issue and needs to be dealt with.

However, may I indulge you with some factoids here?

The "anarchists" were in fact a motley collection of students and "young professionals".

The "police costumes" were, to the uneducated eye, unlikely to be mistaken for the real Mac Coy.

One woman was dressed in a black bra, another had red high heels and stockings. The males of the group (long haired I would point out) dressed in blue boiler suits and the occasional riot helmet.

They sported a fake plastic machine gun and blasted the Ride of the Valkyries through a set of speakers.

Obviously they could easily be mistaken for real police officers!

Ho Hum!

Well, Keir Starmer, the director of public prosecutions, thinks so and decided last month that 11 of the Space Hijackers (for that is their name) will face a four-day trial at a magistrates' court in February.

Leah Borromeo, a freelance writer who was arrested wearing a black bra and boiler suit, said:

"If I'm guilty of anything it's of impersonating a stripper, not a police officer."

  1. More over the top rubbish from Nanny....Clearly designed to suppress and scare the public....Nanny's message......Don't mess with me..I'll 'ave yer.

The concept of policing by consent seems to have gone completely in our modern society....Our police, whom incidently used to have a psychological profiling process as part of the selection process, appear to readily recruit power hungry thugs.....Even their uniform now, appears to be designed to intimidate.

It appears that a law that was passed to stop a particular problem; Criminals pretending to be police officers, is being used to just stifel any opposition to Nanny and her policies...This type of political prosecution just increases the gulf between the governed and the government....

We are rapidly becoming a police state and our police force is rapidly becoming a military wing of the government, somewhat similar in some ways to Mugabee's war veterans miltia.

Hopefully the judge will throw it out and call them for the bunch of dobbers they are.

"They sported a fake plastic machine gun and blasted the Ride of the Valkyries through a set of speakers."

In the oh-so bizarre world of the upper classes, this is normal behaviour for a Saturday night. Add a few whips and chains and you have a party.

Impersonating the police? High court judges more like.

  4. This is obvious bollocks and nanny is once again overstepping her powers in an attempt to intimidate the masses.

However I'm not sure where my hatred of the G20 protestors ends and my hatred of nannys polocies begins.

This shouldnt even have become a criminal case but I am less likely to loses sleep over a few anti capitalists getting thier heads cracked than I would over the same happening to Labour poloticians.

  5. Julius Caesar2:05 PM

A pity that they aren't so meticulous when it comes to dealing with burglars, drug dealers, violence and other 'real' crime.

  6. Ermmm . . . is it too late to nominate the Nobel Prize Committee for the Prats of the Week Award?

  7. Grant6:32 PM

    Black Sea:

Yes. Especially as Ken's fine award has been awarded twice in two days.

However the Prats of the Year Award is, as far as I know, still available.

A small Joke told to me some years ago by a Scandinavian - Swedish Or Danish as I recall:

A Swede and a Norwegian were walking along a cliff top when the Swede noticed a dead sea bird.

"Look" said the Swede, "A dead seagull." Immediately the Norwegian looked up and stared into the sky shouting, "Where? Where?"

  8. I fear that a Prats of the Hour Award may soon be necessary.

  9. I'm glad to hear that this case in going ahead. There was me thinking the country was practically bankrupt, but no! Clearly the public finances are fine since we can afford to throw money at frivolous trials.

Going totally off topic (well it's Friday after all)...

@Grant, despite having lived in Sweden, the butt of most Scandinavian jokes I've heard are the Swedes. So in the spirit of Scandinavian egalitarianism...

A Swedish truck driver got stuck in a tunnel in Norway. Soon a Norwegian came along and found the truck wedged in with the load stuck against the ceiling. The Norwegian suggested that the Swede let the air out of the tyres. The Swede looked angrily at him, "You moron! It's the top of the truck that's stuck."

  10. Grant9:40 PM

Good observation about our finances Manc.

I expect Gordon can dip into the gold reserves, now the price has gone up, to fund some of it.

On the 'as it's Friday' theme ...

    told to me in Denmark by a Dane;

"What's the difference between Sweden, Norway and Denmark?"

    "Sweden has good neighbours."

    She's also a Guardianista Ken. But she has nice ( o )( o ) and that goes a long way! ;o)

It's the police officers impersonating anarchists that you've really got to watch out for.
