Question For Nanny? UPDATED Ecuador Grants Asylum

Since when did we, as a country, disregard international rules and conventions wrt embassies being sovereign territory?

Assange may be a complete and utter wanker, but threatening to enter an embassy in order to arrest him sets a very dangerous precedent:

"You need to be aware that there is a legal base in the UK, the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987, that would allow us to take actions in order to arrest Mr Assange in the current premises of the embassy."
Nanny is becoming dangerously delusional!

Irrespective of the rights or wrongs of what Julian Assange may or may not have done (and the cynical side of me wonders whether the allegations of sexual assault may be a smokescreen to get him out of the country as a means to transfer him to the U.S.A whilst avoiding any protests)what is being proposed sets a very dangerous precedent. It would be a red light for others, whose views on freedom, democracy and human rights are even worse than ours, to violate any embassy on any pretext. No ambassador, his staff or embassy would be safe, as the opportunity would be taken to settle old scores and there would also be tit for tat violations. The result would be horrendous, and this country would have to take much of the blame.

  2. My Lord.....I couldn't agree more.

I also wonder if William " I'm well bloody hard so watch it" Hague would issue similar threats to say The USA or Chinese embassies? I would have thought we needed all the friends we could get in South America at the moment.
I see Mr Hague is saying that they have an obligation to act on the EU arrest warrant.....I wonder why that trumps international law and convention. I can't wait for other states to enter British embassies all over the world following Mr Hague's lead.

I can't say I like or dislike Mr Assange and I know not whether the charges are false or otherwise however, when we choose to disregard the rule of law, then we can no longer go around the world preaching about democracy etc.

I would bet my life that eventually The USA will get their paws on Mr Assange one way or another, because he made them look like tits; that is his real crime, in my opinion.
