PHE Spreading The Fear

Susan Hopkins of PHE, insists we are in for a tough winter, as our immunity to other viruses could have fallen, after a year with no flu and norovirus.

That is exactly what happens when you stop people interacting with each other; ie lockdowns compromise our immunity systems.

A very cogent argument against lockdowns!

Public Health England Won't Work Sundays

As loyal readers know Public Health England (PHE) often features on this site.

I had hoped that since the announcement, last year, of its abolition that we would hear nothing more of this useless organisation. Sadly this has proven not to be the case.

It transpires that, for reasons that are unclear, PHE will not work on Sundays wrt the national vaccination project.

Why not?

Handcock et al Prisoners of The Health Zealots

As is all too obvious, Handock and the the others who claim to be making the decisions that affect us all wrt Covid, have been taken prisoner by the health zealots.

Not content with imposing arbitrary restrictions on people and businesses before the national lockdown, then imposing another national lockdown, these zealots are not only pushing for an extension of the lockdown but a further tightening of post lockdown restrictions (eg the ban of booze sales after 21:00).

Whether that has any effect on the alleged levels of infection is a moot point. However, what is assured is that it will further cripple the economy.

A dead economy will not be able to feed the open maw that is the NHS, these zealots might want to think about that!

There needs to be balance in this.

PHE Really Is Utter Shite!

The bottom line here is that the tests are unreliable and the figures reported each day are not to be trusted.

As such, to base decisions on these statistics is crazy. Nanny ought to be looking at hospital admissions (those being admitted with Covid) to get a sense of what is actually happening.

Hancock Abolishes PHE - Good Riddance To Bad Rubbish!

It is good to see that PHE will be abolished, and replaced (allegedly) with a German style pandemic response agency.

However, what will not be so good if the new agency is staffed with those who worked for PHE and is run by a person over-promoted for failure in previous roles.

PHE Data is Unreliable

As loyal readers know, PHE has featured on this site before.

The article above notes that the data provided by PHE is not reliable and, as such, ONS data should be used.

As and when Covid has been brought under some form of control, it is likely that PHE will be dealt with one way or another.

Nanny Wants To Shrink Your Drink

Nanny doesn't believe that we are capable of controlling ourselves, as such she wants to do it for us.

Our old friends from Public Health England have decreed that wine glasses in restaurants should be no bigger than 250ml, to prevent binge drinking, and wants Nanny to pass the relevant legislation.

It seems that researchers from the University of Cambridge found that people who eat out in restaurants drink less when they are given a smaller glass.

In restaurants, when glass size was increased from 300ml to 370ml, wine sales increased by 7.3 per cent. Reducing the glass size to 250ml led to a drop of 9.6 per cent.

Unless I have have missed something, it is not illegal to drink (yet!).

Nanny can keep her interfering nose out of our dining and boozing habits!

Draw Your Curtains - Warm Weather Coming

In response to the possibility of a couple of days of warm weather (in the summer, who knew?), Nanny's chums in Public Health England (PHE) have issued a level-2 ‘alert and readiness’ warning with older people urged to close their curtains (are we expecting and air raid?) and avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day.

Netweather charts show high humidity could make temperatures 'feel like' 111F (44C) before the end of the week.

Well then, I will not bother closing the curtains but I will drink more lager!

PHE Want To Ban Cars From Schools

Nanny's quango, Public Health England, wants to ban cars from near schools.

Paul Cosford, the medical director of Public Health England, told the Times it should be socially unacceptable to leave a car running near school gates.

The comments came as PHE published a series of recommendations on how the government can improve air quality.

PHE said 28,000 to 36,000 deaths a year in the UK could be attributed to long-term exposure to air pollution.

All very well, but how does PHE intend to enforce such a rule?

More council enforcement officers and fines I assume?

Prevention Is Better Than Cure

Nanny wants people need to take “greater responsibility" for taking the strain off the NHS, by taking the approach "prevention is better than cure".

Fair enough, that is a perfectly reasonable maxim.

However, Nanny believes that this will be achieved by people cutting down on how much they eat and drink.

Matt Hancock, who?..the Health Secretary, will apparently tell a health conference that taxpayers have a role to play in taking pressure off the National Health Service by focusing on the prevention rather than the cure.

Nanny intends to focus on stopping unhealthy lifestyles.

Yes, the word "stop" is being used. So much for people "taking responsibility"!

Public Health England will examine how to target health advice at people living in areas with there is a higher preponderance of "unhealthy lifestyles".

Nanny intends to look at "harnessing digital technology" as a form of "predictive prevention" to target people in regions prone to poor diet and bad drinking habits. In other words non middle class areas.

The Telegraph reports that Hancock will say:
It’s about people choosing to look after themselves better, staying active and stopping smoking. Making better choices by limiting alcohol, sugar, salt and fat.

But focusing on the responsibilities of patients, isn’t about penalising people.

It’s about helping them make better choices, giving them the all the support we can, because we know taking the tough decisions is never easy.”
It sounds to me as though it will be a case of penalising people and telling them what to eat drink, and smoke!

Public Health England will bring together and coordinate a range of experts to build, evaluate and model predictive prevention at scale.

Duncan Selbie, chief executive of Public Health England, said:
"We need to move from a system that detects and treats illnesses to one that also predicts and prevents poor health through promoting health in all policies and puts people back in charge of their own health."
I have a few observations:

1 This will not put people back in charge of their own health, it will be used by Nanny to dictate to people what they may eat, drink and smoke etc.

2 Nanny has her sums wrong, whilst it costs an inordinate amount of money to treat people for obesity, booze, drugs etc.; it costs even more to keep people alive in their old age treating dementia etc etc.

3 Who the hell wants to live longer, only to end up in one of Nanny's homes for the elderly?

4 Given that the NHS is free, people are incentivised to take advantage of it. Until you start charging people for missed appointments, lost equipment etc you will never get people to act responsibly.

5 What exactly constitutes a "healthy lifestyle"?

Nanny's Calorie Cap

It seems that Nanny is now abandoning any pretence that we have a right to choose what and how much we eat, as she proposes to introduce a mandatory calorie cap on food.

The fascists in Public Health England insist that pizzas must shrink or lose their toppings, and pies, ready meals and sandwiches will also be subject to the new proposed calorie limits.

Under the draft proposals, a standard pizza for one should contain no more than 928 calories - far less than many sold by takeaways, restaurants and shops.  And the recommendations suggest that a savoury pie should contain no more than 695 calories.

Public Health England (PHE) said “drastic” measures were needed to combat Britain’s obesity crisis.

Dr Alison Tedstone, PHE chief nutritionist, told the Telegraph:
It could mean less meat on a pizza, it could mean less cheese, it could mean a smaller size. Consumers are saying they want smaller portions and healthier options.

We know that just having healthy options on the menu won’t change the nation’s habits - we need the default option to have fewer calories. The default options for pizzas are margherita and pepperoni pizzas, so we need them to get healthier.
Here's why this is bollocks:

1 It's not the state's business how much shit we eat or drink, we are all going to die one way or another; let us choose the manner of our death!

2  Consumers have the right to choose the size of pizza, pie etc and then (if they are full) leave some of it for a doggy bag.

3 Restaurants and takeaways will simply flout this nonsense by offering two "government regulation mini" pizzas for the price of one.

All in all this is a disgrace, Nanny should "go away"!

Nanny's Alcohol Free Days Narking Campaign

Nanny is nagging middle-aged drinkers to have more alcohol-free days a week in a bid to cut its related health risks.

Public Health England (PHE) and the Drinkaware Trust, the alcohol awareness charity, will today unveil Drink Free Days, a new joint campaign to help people reduce the amount of alcohol they are regularly drinking.

Duncan Selbie, the chief executive of PHE is quoted by the Guardian:
Many of us enjoy a drink– but whether it’s a few in the pub after work a couple of times a week, some beers on the sofa watching the football or regular wine with our dinner – it’s all too easy to let our drinking creep up on us.

Setting yourself a target of having more drink free days every week is an easy way to drink less and reduce the risks to your health.”
Selbie then, without any hint of irony, said that “narking at people” about what they may be doing wrong was futile!
"What is the point in being at some distance in people’s lives and just telling them they are doing everything wrong? But if we can run towards them with something they find helpful, that’s got to be a good thing.”
Interestingly guidance issued by Dame Sally Davies, the chief medical officer, advises that men and women should not drink more than 14 units of alcohol per week, which amounts to six 175ml glasses of wine.

Errmmm...was not the advice 14 for woman and 21 for men?

I see Nanny is moving the goalposts as usual.

Now then, in the event that you follow Nanny's orders what will be the outcome?

You will live no more than 2 extra years, but feel miserable and bored!

Nanny Bans Work Birthday Cakes

Our old chums PHE have yet again stuck their haggard noses in to where they are not wanted. This time the object of their ire is the office birthday cake.

In new guidance, Public Health England said those who wanted to buy or make a colleague a cake on their birthday should look for ‘healthier alternatives’.

The advice includes a ‘toolkit for employers’, which provides managers with tips on how to help their staff eat more healthily.

The guidance said
Begin a conversation about how special events (birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, promotions) are marked at work. Can “cake days” be shared, or healthier alternatives be provided?
PHE can fuck right off!

Public Health England Tells England To Go On a Diet

Our old friends from Public Health England (PHE) have donned their jackboots again, and issued a diktat that English people are fat bastards and that we all need to go on a diet.

PHE are calling on food sellers and manufacturers to cut calories in their products by 20% by 2024, with big businesses that fail to make progress set to be named and shamed.

PHE claim that this would slash costs to the NHS by £4.5bn over 25 years and prevent more than 35,000 premature deaths, with another £4.48bn saved in social care costs.

Dr Alison Tedstone, chief nutritionist at PHE, is quoted by the Guardian:
“We have more obese children in England than ever before – we have one in five children arriving in primary school already obese or overweight and one in three leaving primary school obese or overweight."
PHE then go on to say that we should only eat around 1,600 calories a day.

Now, as we all know, Nanny has been telling us that the calories intake should be 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men. So why the 1,600, has something changed?

Nothing has changed, PHE are deliberately lying to you because they think you are morons and can't judge your true calorie intake; as such, if they set the bar lower you might achieve their target.

As you can see, Nanny now openly admits that she is lying in order to get you to do what she wants.

By the way, if we did suddenly become a nation of super slim people that lived to a ripe old age all those costs savings from treating the obese would be more than swallowed up and exceeded by the cost of geriatric care.

Don't worry though, Nanny will doubtless enforce euthanasia in order to save costs!

In short, PHE can go an fuck itself!

Nanny Hates Hot Chocolate

I see that the interfering busybodies from CASH (Consensus Action on Salt and Health) have found another food source, allegedly loaded with salt, to whine about.

This time it turns out that a mug of hot chocolate can have more salt than a packet of ready salted crisps, according to CASH.

Seemingly Galaxy Ultimate Marshmallow Hot Chocolate powder had just over 0.6g of salt per 25g serving - or 2.5g per 100g - more than the 0.15g per 100g target.

Mars Chocolate, quite rightly pointed out that the drink was an "indulgent treat". However, as the BBC notes, but Public Health England (jumping on the CASH coattails) said more work was needed.

A standard 32.5g packet of Walkers Ready Salted Crisps contains 0.46g of salt.

All very well. However, as I have noted many times before, if you are healthy, drink a good amount of liquid and are not sedentary your body will excrete any excess salt via sweat and urine.

That aside, simply add extra sugar to counteract the salt!

Size Matters - The Incredible Shrinking Mars bar

Oh dear, thanks to nanny's war on sugar, it seems that various choccy bars (eg Kat, Dairy Milk and Mars) will be shrunken in size by 20%.

For why?

In order to meet Nanny's targets on reducing sugar.

Had they not done this, the manufacturers might have been named and shamed by Public Health England.

Surely any publicity is good publicity?

Disregarding the manufacturers' apparent fear of PHE, there might be a wee catch in this for the hapless consumer, as yet none of the manufacturers have said that a 20% reduction in size will be a matched by a 20% reduction in price!

How odd!
