Nanny To Ban Junk Food Advertising Before 9PM

Irrespective of whether junk food averts actually cause people to be obese, banning them on TV will simply push them onto the unregulated net (where kids spend most of their time anyway!).

Nanny Bans Adverts For "Bad" Food On TfL

Nanny's ban on junk food advertising across London's entire public transport network has come into force today.

Posters for food and drink high in fat, salt and sugar will begin to be removed from the Underground, Overground, buses and bus shelters from Monday.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he wanted to tackle the "ticking time bomb" of child obesity in the capital.

However, the Advertising Association said the ban would have "little impact on the wider societal issues that drive obesity".

Exactly, it is nothing more than meaningless political gesture!

Fast Food Healthier Than Restaurant Food

Much to my amusement, after years of telling us that fast food was bad for us, Nanny has now come to the conclusion that sit down meals in restaurants are in fact more calorie laden that fast food.

Therefore we must conclude the fast food is in fact good for us!

Nanny's drones have concluded that the calorie content of meals in UK restaurants is "excessive" and sit-down restaurants are unhealthier than fast-food chains, BMJ research suggests.

Health "experts" say meals should not exceed 600 calories, but in this study they averaged 1,033 in restaurants and 751 in fast-food chains.

Why should a meal be limited to 600 calories?

Who are these people to tell us that?

University of Liverpool researchers analysed thousands of meals from places like Hungry Horse and McDonald's.

They said their findings were a cause for concern.

It is clear that Nanny will not only continue trying to shut down fast food outlets, but will now also try to the the same to sit down establishments.

My conclusion is that these people shou;d fuck off and let us get on with our lives!

KFC and Kellogg's Find Themselves on Nanny's Naughty Step

My sympathies to the good people of KFC and Kellogg's who have been placed on Nanny's naughty step.

For why?

Nanny's chums from ASA have told them to remove adverts which promoted junk food to children.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) says they broke strict rules on advertising high fat, sugar or salt products to children.

The ASA found Kellogg's promoted a Coco Pops product, during a Mr Bean cartoon, likely to have been seen by children.

It also ruled KFC advertised a Mars product on a phone box by a school.

FFS!

KFC said the appearance of the ad close to a school was a simple human error and it had taken the advert down promptly, once it had been alerted.

Kellogg's said it was disappointed with the decision as it had only meant to promote the healthier Coco Pops Granola product, rather than the original version. For the record the new "healthy" foul tasting option (which has less sugar) only saves 1 calories per serving compared with the tastier original version!

Why are we allowing Nanny to stick her nose into our affairs?

Nanny Hates Poor Fat People

Data, from Public Health England (PHE), compared levels of deprivation with numbers of takeaways such as chip shops, burger bars and pizza places and found that deprived areas such as Blackpool and parts of Manchester and Liverpool have five times more fast food outlets than affluent areas.

As a result PHE wants local authorities to ban new takeaways.

PHE chief nutritionist Dr Alison Tedstone is quoted by the BBC:
"Local authorities have the power to help support people in making healthier choices.

They need to question whether these fast food hotspots are compatible with their work to help families and young children live healthier lives."
The use of the word "choice" seems disingenuous, given that Nanny wants to ban certain food types from the diets of "poor" people.

If people want to eat themselves to death, why shouldn't they be allowed to?

Nanny To Ban BOGOF Junk Food

Saint Jamie of Oliver has coordinated a letter to Theresa May, signed by Corbyn, Sturgeon, Cable and Lucas, that calls upon Nanny to ban buy-one-get-one-free offers on junk food, and impose strict new rules on how and when it can be advertised.
"We are writing to urge you to take bold action to tackle one of the greatest health challenges of our time. A crisis which is putting immense pressure on the NHS as it approaches its 70th birthday."
The pressure on the NHS is brought about by the following:

- unrealistic expectations of what the NHS can do for people
- people living far too long, but not living a quality dignified life
- people misusing the NHS without consideration to those who are really ill

The fact is severely obese people die earlier than those who aren't, as such they are not the main drain on the NHS's resources.

Does it not occur to people that once the state starts dictating what we may/may not eat and drink then we may as well end our lives now, as the most basic of freedoms will have been taken away from us?

Public Health England Tells England To Go On a Diet

Our old friends from Public Health England (PHE) have donned their jackboots again, and issued a diktat that English people are fat bastards and that we all need to go on a diet.

PHE are calling on food sellers and manufacturers to cut calories in their products by 20% by 2024, with big businesses that fail to make progress set to be named and shamed.

PHE claim that this would slash costs to the NHS by £4.5bn over 25 years and prevent more than 35,000 premature deaths, with another £4.48bn saved in social care costs.

Dr Alison Tedstone, chief nutritionist at PHE, is quoted by the Guardian:
“We have more obese children in England than ever before – we have one in five children arriving in primary school already obese or overweight and one in three leaving primary school obese or overweight."
PHE then go on to say that we should only eat around 1,600 calories a day.

Now, as we all know, Nanny has been telling us that the calories intake should be 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men. So why the 1,600, has something changed?

Nothing has changed, PHE are deliberately lying to you because they think you are morons and can't judge your true calorie intake; as such, if they set the bar lower you might achieve their target.

As you can see, Nanny now openly admits that she is lying in order to get you to do what she wants.

By the way, if we did suddenly become a nation of super slim people that lived to a ripe old age all those costs savings from treating the obese would be more than swallowed up and exceeded by the cost of geriatric care.

Don't worry though, Nanny will doubtless enforce euthanasia in order to save costs!

In short, PHE can go an fuck itself!

You Are What You Eat

According to a recent study by the LSE traditional meals recommended by parents are now simply too much for a less-active generation.

Errmm, small point here, previous generations ate home cooked meals consisting of meat, spuds and veg. It would seem that many in the modern world now eat pre cooked, fast food, high sugar/fat shite. In other words, people are not eating the same type of food as was eaten by their parents.

Could that be a factor in the porkiness epidemic??

Burger Off!

The Independent reports that a new study from US-based food testing company Clear Labs has discovered, from a sample of 258 burgers, two cases of meat in vegetarian products, three burgers with rat DNA and one case of human DNA.

Additionally almost a quarter of vegetarian burgers have different ingredients to those on the label. Two veggie burgers contained beef, and one black bean burger contained no black beans.

It never ceases to gemuse me that despite all of Nanny's rules, regulations and monitoring such cock ups still occur. This only goes to prove that you cannot zeroise risk, no matter how officious Nanny becomes.

Burger Me!

I am hugely gemused to read that, despite Nanny's hysterical campaign against all forms of fast food, it seems that the most "evil" of products a McDonald may in fact be rather good for you in the sense that it is the cheapest most "bountiful" food in human history.

Stephen Dubner, who co-authored "Freakonomics", hosted a debate on his blog after a reader suggested the McDouble packed a better nutritional punch for the penny than is often assumed.

The Telegraph reports that the double cheeseburger provides 390 calories, 23 grams of protein (half a daily serving), seven per cent of daily fibre, 19 grams of fat and 20 per cent of daily calcium, all for between $1 and $2.

Kyle Smith, a New York Post columnist, said:
“Facts are facts – where else but McDonald’s can poor people obtain so many calories per dollar?”
Mr Dubner added:
“The more I thought about the question, whether the McDouble is the cheapest, most bountiful, and nutritious food ever, the more I realised how you answer that question says a lot about how you see the world, not only our food system and the economics of it, but even social justice.”
In other words, fast food feeds people cheaply. As ever with any food or drink, so long as you don't overdo it, it will not kill you.

Nanny Bans Fizzy Sugar Water and Shite Food

I see that Nanny's chums from the medical profession are yet again hyperventilating about the dangers to our health posed by fizzy sugared water and shite processed/fast food (sans horsemeat).

The good doctors want fizzy sugared water taxed, and adverts for shite food banned until after the watershed.

The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, which represents nearly every doctor in the UK, is worried about the obesity epidemic and wants unhealthy foods to be treated in the same way as fags.

As I have warned many times before on this site Nanny, once she has dealt with the smokers and drinkers, will come after those who eat food that she deems to be "unhealthy".

Ermmmm...horsegate anyone (did Nanny herself not serve unhealthy food to our kids?)?

It is very well, and easy, to demonise advertising and the abundance of "cheap" food for the rise in obesity in this country. However, like it or not, people are not forced to eat shite; they eat it (horsegate aside) of their own free will.

I enjoy the occasional bucket of fried chicken and fries, washed down with copious amounts of Red Stripe. Once in a while, with a balanced diet, this does no harm. However, were I to eat that everyday I would become a fat unhealthy lard bucket.

I don't eat that every day for a number of reasons:

1 I don't want to.

2 I enjoy variety in my food intake.

3 I don't wish to become a lard bucket etc.

The doctors press their case on the basis that we don't seem to be able to control ourselves, well how is it that I and a good many other people can control ourselves and not gorge ourselves to death on shite?

The doctors also worry about the cost to the NHS of treating obese people. That is true, the costs of treating obesity are rising. However, were the obese people to be made slim and healthy tomorrow by a flip of Nanny's magic wand we can assume that they would live long lives into a demented, decaying old age. Thus transferring the cost of treating them from obesity to the long term care of elderly and demented.

Sorry to say it, but Nanny knows full well that the younger you die the less you cost the state.

The doctors are failing to look at the overall picture, namely that the demands on the NHS are simply too great for it to be able to bear in its current form; the NHS is like a balloon squeeze one end (eg tackle obesity) and another pops out (ie the cost of caring for the elderly).

Nanny Hates Fast Food - KFC Is Good For You

In the event that this article in the Mail is true, then it appears that hospital food contains more salt and fat that Nanny's much hated fast food
"A Big Mac burger is healthier than three quarters of hospital meals, a study has revealed.

The survey, carried out by the campaign group Sustain, found that 75 per cent of NHS food contained more saturated fat that McDonald's signature burger, while 60 per cent had more salt.

In one case, a curry contained six times more fat that a KFC zinger burger with fries and on another occasion a pasta dish was found to have more than three times a person's daily recommended saturated fat intake and twice their salt limit."
Does this mean, given what I wrote yesterday, that Nanny will be banning people from eating in hospitals?

Nanny Hates Fast Food

As loyal readers are all too aware, Nanny really hates fast food.

Partly it's because it contains the ingredients that she has a bee in  her bonnet about; eg salt, sugar, fat, starch, trans fats etc etc.

You know, the sort of ingredients that to a greater or lesser extent are found in all foods!

That aside, the other issue that really "grinds Nanny's gears" is the fact that (in her view) a large amount of fast food is eaten by "the lower orders" (a part of society that Nanny rather despises and is, in her view, not capable of looking after itself).

Therefore, not content with the pasty tax (the House of Commons, rather ironically, serves taxpayer subsidised "unhealthy" pasties), Nanny has come with another wheeze designed to stamp out the "curse" of fast food in poorer areas.

Her solution?

She intends to bans fast food shops from operating in certain areas, and to ban them from being situated near to public (ie state) buildings!

Step forward Haringey Council, which is set to become the first in the UK to limit the number of pizza, burger and kebab shops on its streets in an attempt to improve the health of its poorest residents.

A draft scheme is in place for the restrictions which would see planning applications for venues considered alongside the need to keep the number of takeaways strictly limited. New outlets could also be banned from within 400 metres of schools, youth clubs and parks.

Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum and chair of the Child Growth Foundation (doubtless these quangos are all paid for by the taxpayer!) is of the view that fast food should be banned from anywhere around public buildings and particularly where children are involved (won't someone think of the children!!).

It is not the state's role to stop us eating what we want!

Those who choose to kill themselves by eating crap everyday, have the right to make that choice. Whilst those who are fit and healthy, who choose to indulge once in a while should not be restricted from that indulgence.
