French Nanny Bans Even Numbered Cars
Good luck to the good people of Paris today, who are enduring French Nanny's attempts to reduce the levels of pollution in the city.
Nanny's solution is to ban all cars from driving in Paris with even number plates today. Tomorrow it will be the turn of those with odd numbered plates to be banned. This experiment will last for five days, in theory.
Methinks there surely must be other ways (less cumbersome and less prone to prompting Gallic outbursts of temperament) to reduce the number of cars in Paris that Nanny could employ?
This will end in tears!

A five day period would discriminate against even-numbered car drivers. Not that it really matters - it'll be ignored.
ReplyDeleteThe Nigerian authorities did this many years ago - in Lagos if not all cities. The result was buying fake odd/even plates which could be switched in minutes, or for the slightly rich, legally buying two cars (one could be a "banger") thereby exacerbating the problem.
ReplyDeleteEuro Nanny will not be happy until we're all living in caves, eating lentils and knitting yoghurt, whilst we read our Guardians. She is determined to kill off our way of life and turn us into a third world country, all in the name of equality instead of trying to raise the developing world up to our economic level.
