Nanny Bans Sweets at Checkouts

Nanny is to unveil a sweeping ban on shops offering unhealthy snacks and sweets at checkouts in a bid to clamp down on soaring obesity rates and poor dental health.

The Mail on Sunday understands that health officials plan to roll out the restriction in the coming weeks despite most major supermarkets already removing products voluntarily.

The move is part of Nanny’s plan to halve childhood obesity in England by 2030.

However, most major supermarkets such as Tesco and Waitrose have already banned sweets and chocolate from being stocked near tills. Therefore I would have to question what is the point of legislating after the horse has voluntarily gone into the stable?

I would also note that moving sweets from one end of the shop to another will not make the slightest difference to the levels of obesity (real or imagined) in Britain!

The reason for the dental problems we see in this country, I suspect is more about affordability than to many sweets and treats. If dentistry is priced above what people can afford, then they will tend to avoid it
Regarding obesity in our country, I suspect it is more about nanny frightening parents about paedos being behind every bush and tree that has led to kids to become obede and inactive. Baby sitting by XBox as I call it
