Irish Nanny is set to introduce new alcohol labelling rules that will require all alcoholic beverages to carry health warnings about the risks of drinking. The new rules, which were approved by the Irish government in September 2022, will come into effect in 2026.
Ireland is to become the first country in the world to introduce comprehensive health warning labels on alcohol products. I’ve signed the regulations so that from May 2026 labels must contain details of calorie content, grams of alcohol and risks of liver disease and cancer. pic.twitter.com/LHBBnaRkyZ

The labels will include three key messages:
- Drinking alcohol causes liver disease.
- There is a direct link between alcohol and fatal cancers.
- Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause harm to the unborn baby.
The labels will also include the number of calories and grams of alcohol in each serving.
The Irish government says that the new labels are a necessary step to reduce the harmful effects of alcohol consumption. Alcohol is a major risk factor for a number of health problems, including liver disease, cancer, and heart disease.
My sympathies to the good people of Ireland, this will not make any difference to the amount that people drink it will merely increase the costs!
