EducashunA barking mad acolyte of Nanny's, Alan McMurdo - head of the Thomas Deacon city academy in Peterborough, has decreed that pupils at his new £46M "super school" will have no break and no playground because he does not agree with the concepts.

McMurdo says that learning would improve, if pupils had to concentrate on lessons throughout the day.

Quote:

"I want the teachers teaching and

the children learning at the school.

If children are enjoying lessons,

then there will be no need to go

and run off steam outside
.”

Is he mad?

Has he ever been near children before?

Absolutely potty!

    Ken,

I can't see a problem with this concept. If he has carried it through completely they can do away with windows as well as the kids will be so engrossed they won't want to look outside. Benefits accrued would include no window cleaning requirement and reduced safety risk in the absence of glass.

I assume that this will be a selective school so that only kids for whom the idea 'works' will be forced to endure this mans' ideas (McMurdo - yet another Scottish influence?).

Still, so long as he can specify which bottle line his students can be decanted from I imagine the potential for mismatching child to method will be minimal.

    ''If children are enjoying lessons,''

Come come Ken, this visionary is taking the next logical step towards teaching children to be 'happy' (see your previous article)

Id they're not allowed out all day there's no chance that any of the kids will have their self-esteem punctured by their less tactful peers. And come the kicking out bell they'll all be avid to get home for some grub as they'll all be starving. Not to mention the teachers. ;) skydog

Hasn't Alan McMurdo heard that 'all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'?

What's wrong with McMurdo's suggestion? All he's doing is preparing our future wage slaves, sorry, employees for their sixteen hour stints, with no breaks, under the overseers' whips in the dark satanic (insert hellhole of choice).

Don't forget, we entering the brave new world of NuLabour's PFI Britain plc.

Dr McMurdo has had a lot of experience with children, as shown by the fact that he was my headmaster for seven years - and a sterling job he did, too.
I have a feeling that Dr McMurdo is the public face with this issue - I'm not sure it's him who has made all these decisions. Especially considering the huge amount of sway Perkins Engines (the academy's principal sponsor) appears to be having over the school at the moment.
