Nanny Bans Clock Winding

Nanny Bans Clock WindingI think one's only reaction when reading this piece of Nanny nonsense is to ejaculate (no, I didn't mean like that!)...the phrase...

"For Fark's Sake!"

It seems that the health and safety Gestapo have been up to their old tricks again, this time focusing their efforts on the Old Town Hall clock in Torquay.

Despite being ticking away merrily for the last 145 years or so, the clock is now deemed to be a health and safety hazard to those who wind it up.

Therefore Nanny has banned the winding of the clock.

The clock has been wound every week by a volunteer since 1862.

However, following a council "risk assessment" (whenever I hear that phrase I instinctively reach for my revolver) the 60ft clock tower was deemed unsafe and closed.

As said...

For Fark's Sake!

This is a wind up surely?

  2. Our Morley Town Hall clock is out of bounds to all but the Company that fixes it- fortunately it has an electric winder.

The caretaker staff used to go up to mute the chimes when brass band recordings were in progress in the concert hall but that has been forbidden now.

It isn't unhealthy or unsafe, just a steep metal staircase to the belfry.

  3. Isn't Torquay part of the same council that banned palm trees on health and safety grounds ? Maybe the good people of that borough should be wrapped in cotton wool to protect them from all the dangers that seem to lurk in that part of the world ? I'm certainly never going there again. In fact I will be taking my next holiday in Iraq or perhaps Helmand Province as they are much safer.

Yes it was, so I'm not in the least bit surprised at the latest pearls of wisdom to eminate from the pillocks running (or rather ruining) the town. I agree with 'Grumpy' that there ought to be a risk assessment on morons like these!

Decisions like this are bad for my health too, as they raise my blood pressure! Surely the time is long overdue to call 'time' on Nanny and those working for her!
