Nanny Reverts To War Time Rationing

Oh dear it seems that Nanny has reverted to the 1940's, and is working on the assumption that she can control our food rations.

A leaked report by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition is going to recommend to Nanny that we must not eat more than 500g (1.1lb) of red or processed meat each week (70g a day - that's 3 rashers of bacon a day folks!), if we are to avoid bowel cancer.

A Coalition (we had a coalition government during the War) source told the media:

"It is important that people are not put off eating red meat entirely – but it would be irresponsible to ignore the potential health risks.

The advice is very clear
."

We will be seeing these new small sized portions served in Westminster's dining rooms then, will we???

No, I thought not!

Nanny would do well to remember that we will eat what we wish, and should also remember that just because she calls herself a "coalition" does not mean that she has the stature, competence, ability or turst of the people of the war time coalition government.

The wartime coalition included all parties, not the cock-up we have at the moment.

Rationing didn't finish until 1953, three years after I was born. Despite rationing my parents assured me that people (especially children) were generally healthier during the war years because they ate fresh, locally grown stuff.

Of course nowadays we can't grow enough food to feed ourselves and depend on imported stuff well past its "fresh to" date and/or "preserved" with chemicals. What we do grow is trucked hundreds of miles to central depots then trucked back to supermarkets that in many cases are within a couple of miles of where it was grown.

Before Nanny lectures us on what we eat she should do something to cut all those "food miles" and remove all the stupid regulations that prevent farmers from growing the food we need while at the same time being able to make a living doing it. Had today's regime been in force during the war years we would have starved.

    The science is clear.

Eating red meat / processed meat gives you a 20% increased risk of colorectal cancer.

Sounds scary? 20% risk of cancer from eating processed meat?

    Except it's a 20% increase in risk.

You need to know what the absolute risk is.

The risk of getting colorectal cancer is 5 in 1000. That is, in a group of 1000 people, on average 5 will contract colorectal cancer. That's 5 in 1000 people who don't eat any red/processed meat at all.

So, if you eat as much red meat as you like, and hang the consequences, you have a 20% increased risk. That means the risk to meat eaters is 6 in 1000.

    I'll take those odds.

  4. Nanny needs to stop being a control freak and get on with the things governments are supposed to do; defence, education, poolice and justice. She should not micromanage people's lives.

I thought this type of nonsense was going to stop once call me Dave got in.

The ONLY way we could be self sufficient in food on our island, is to cut the population levels and, I hear that EU Nanny/UK Nanny have just accepted a deal that issues tens of thousands of visas for Indians to come to our nation in return for India buying EUSSR/UK goods.

When I hear that Local Nanny will only provide planing permission if a developer agrees to "donate" some cash to community projects, or when I hear, India will only buy our goods if we give them visas etc etc....I wonder just what the difference is between this type of arrangement and a CEO giving a bung to someone to obtain a contract. It seems bribery and corruption is written into our law by staute; the word hypocret comes to mind.

    Just laugh at Hi-Viz.

"We will be seeing these new small sized portions served in Westminster's dining rooms then, will we???"

Like hell we will! Politicians, Nanny and her minions take the same point of view as Jadis, the evil witch-queen in C.S. Lewis's 'The Magicians Nephew' who reappeared as the white witch in 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. She expressed the belief that rules, which the 'common' people were expected to obey, did not apply to great queens such as herself.

"Nanny would do well to remember that just because she calls herself a "coalition" does not mean that she has the stature, competence, ability or turst of the people of the war time coalition government."

    You are not kidding, Ken!

That sums up the real problem. We don't need or want GM, cloned or irradiated food.for

  7. Lies, damned lies and statistics - does Nanny have any real idea about risk assesment? This kind of twaddle makes me want to go out and eat meat, red meat and nothing but red meat for the next six months. Luckily I am living in Beijing and there is none of this elf and safety rubbish, if you want to eat braised Yak for breakfast it's entirely down to you.
