Nanny Hates Fags - Smoking in Cars Banned

I see that a smoking shelter outside Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry is to be demolished today.

The Western Health Trust's new policy means that smokers will not be able to use such shelters. Additionally, and this is really bizarre, people (staff, patients, the public etc) will be banned from smoking in their own cars cars on trust premises.

A trust spokeswoman is quoted by the BBC:
"The Western Trust will become a completely smoke free campus on 12 March 2014, National No Smoking Day, making the trust the first smoke free health and social care trust in Northern Ireland.

No smoking will be allowed on site for patients, service users, staff, members of the public and contracted workers.

This is a step further than the previous policy as there will be no shelter where patients can smoke and staff will not be allowed to smoke in their cars on site."
May I ask how the fark Nanny intends to enforce her no smoking in cars policy?

  1. Firstly, let me declare my interest; I am not a smoker, never have been, never will however, I spent my professional life in mental healthcare.

I would suggest that it is cruel in the extreme to prevent inpatients from being able to smoke within the grounds of the hospital. Being in hospital is stressful enough for many people, let alone dealing with the forced withdrawal from nicotine and the stress that comes with it.
Regarding how they will enforce the no smoking in cars question; I suspect they'll have an army of hi-viz robots who will issue kerchings....The sheeple will pay up because they don't really understand the law relating to contract nor who can issue fines.
