Last year Brighton council closed Madeira Drive (the seafront road) to cars. The closure proved to be shambolic and caused gridlock elsewhere in the city, along with buggering up tourism and business on the seafront.
The council were forced into changing policy and, grudgingly, reopened the road to one way traffic.
Here we are in 2021 and the idiots (Labour idiots) are trying the same thing again.
Labour Councillors representing Queen’s Park and East Brighton Wards have expressed concern that Madeira Drive is currently unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists. Whilst we welcome the changes being made to provide dedicated cycle lanes and allocate space for different modes of travel, Madeira Drive should be closed to cars (except for people with disabilities/blue badge holders) whilst work is done, and lockdown continues.
What the councillors fail to notice is that:
1 There are hardly any cars using Madeira Drive at the moment.
2 The danger to pedestrians comes from speeding cyclists who seem incapable of using their brakes/handlebars.
In the evnt of them succeeding in closing the road to cars, this "temporary" measure will become permanent (to the detriment of tourism, business and traffic flow in Brighton).
