Nanny Bans Hopscotch

I wonder sometimes whether the "powers that be" in this country have had some form of collective mental breakdown. That at least is the only conclusion that I can draw from the story that has appeared all over the media about Lily-May Allen's encounter with Ramsgate Police.

Lily-May is 10, and drew a chalk hopscotch grid on the pavement outside her house.

This is a perfectly normal activity for a child, and one which is indulged in throughout the country.

Unfortunately, for reasons that are completely unclear, some officers from Kent police allegedly informed her that it was criminal damage.

Bob Allen, her father, is quoted by the BBC:
"I'm so infuriated that they didn't come and knock on the door and ask to see me or her mum.

They've just gone and said something to her and then just driven off."
It is entirely possible that this was some kind of joke that the officers may have been trying to have that went slightly wrong, as Lily-May didn't see the funny side. As a police spokesman said:
"From the circumstances described, it would not appear to have been necessary to advise the young girl that chalking a hopscotch grid may be criminal damage and illegal."
This all seems very odd to me!

Nanny Bans Jerry

Jerry
I am gemused to read that the residents of Aylesford have been banned by Nanny from filling up Jerry Cans (fuel cannisters) with petrol at their local petrol stations.

For why?

Nanny is worried that these may be used by erstwhile rioters to start a riot.

Fair enough except:

1 Aylesford is not an inner city centre.

2 The people who do this use the fuel for their lawnmowers.

3 Rioters and other dickheads tend not to bother wandering along to petrol stations to buy fuel, they simply syphon it off from other people's cars.

Nanny Bans Balaclava

Nanny Bans Balaclava
Ermmm...has Nanny lost it completely?

Answers on a postcard please to "Nanny has lost it completely..."

I only ask because it seems that Nanny's "war" on terror has taken a bizarre, and almost hysterical new twist. Nanny's chums in Kent police have taken umbrage against a board game called "War On Terror", and have confiscated it.

For why?

It contains a balaclava...and as we all know, balaclavas can be used to hide one's face which in turn means they can be used by criminals and terrorists.

Brilliant logic isn't it?

The board game was confiscated from climate protesters during a series of raids near Kingsnorth power station, in Kent, the other week.

War on Terror involves creating empires that compete and wage war.

Each player starts as an empire with good intentions, and a determination to liberate the world from terrorists and from each other. Then reality kicks in.

The person designated as a member of "the axis of evil" has to wear a balaclava (included in the game) with the word "Evil" stitched on to it.

Kent police said they had confiscated the game because the balaclava "could be used to conceal someone's identity or could be used in the course of a criminal act".

How bizarre!

Nanny's Special Childcatchers - The Kent Police

Nanny's Special ChildcatchersAs I often observe on this site, Nanny (aided and abetted by a very compliant and semi hysterical media) have managed to convince a vast swathe of the population that all children in Britain are under direct threat from paedophiles, attackers, and child traffickers etc.

Such is the level of hysteria that now prevails even members of the police force, who should know better, have become infected by it.

Julie Maynard, of Ware Hertfordshire, who was taking a day trip to Calais through the Channel Tunnel found this to her cost in February.

A detective constable accused Ms Maynard and her husband Leslie Coombs of trafficking her son Joshua, who is 12.

The family were stopped by the plain clothes officer from the Channel Tunnel Policing Unit on 20 February.

Ms Maynard, who happens to be a legal advocate (how unfortunate for Nanny!), said that the officer, who failed to identify who she was, asked for the family's passports then asked "who's the boy?".

Joshua is mixed race, and Nanny immediately (because of course Nanny only sees people by their skin colour) assumed that Joshua was being trafficked.

The officer said:

"I believe you are child trafficking."

Ms Maynard then asked the woman officer if she would be asked the same question if her son was white, the officer replied:

"Are you accusing me of being a racist?"

You can see where this is going can't you?

Yes, that's right, for reasons that only Nanny can come up with the family were then detained under the Terrorism Act and surrounded by "at least 10 police officers" who ordered them to get out of their car.

Now please tell me why, if Nanny really believed that this was child trafficking, was the Terrorism Act used?

Could it be that Nanny knew that she had no grounds for an accusation of trafficking, and therefore used the Terrorism Act as a catch all to impose her jackboot on an innocent citizen?

This is where we have got to. The promises made by our "leaders" that the act will only be used for terrorists have been exposed as lies.

The act is being used as a catch all device to allow Nanny and her followers to conduct personal vendettas.

Once people lose respect for the law, the law becomes unworkable and the criminal justice system will collapse.

Ms Maynard was separated from her husband and son, who is autistic and has cerebral palsy, and taken to a detention room for questioning, leaving Joshua distressed.

Ms Maynard said the woman officer told her:

"It's obvious he [Joshua] has nothing to do with you".

Again, why the Terrorism Act?

Officers told the family they had powers to hold them for up to nine hours under Section 7 of the Terrorism Act, but they were released after more than two hours.

Julie Maynard said:

"More and more people are being stopped under the Terrorism Act - there's absolutely nothing in the act to stop individual officers abusing their powers.

They have a difficult job to do in a difficult climate but their approach needs to be reasonable and not presumptive that every person is somehow guilty of a possible terrorism or criminal offence
."

Kent Police have paid a "substantial sum" of money to the welfare fund at Joshua's school, reimbursed the family's ferry fare and offered Joshua a visit to the Kent police marine launch.

Insp Helen Shaw, from Kent Police's Frontier Operations, apologised to the family in a letter.

In another letter she wrote:

"Your complaint and my subsequent enquiries allowed me to identify that her (the officer's) manner had been insensitive, lacking in tact and that her conduct overall lacked the professionalism I expect.

I wish to reassure you that your highly unsatisfactory experience was a very isolated incident
."

The officer has been transferred.

All well and good. However, how many other incidents like this are happening across the country where the Terrorism Act is used?

What would have happened if Ms Maynard had not had legal experience?

This sucks, big time!

Nanny Bans Flashing

Nanny Bans FlashingIn a move that I can only describe as utter stupidty, Nanny has decided to ban the Kent police from using sirens and blue flashing lights.

Seemingly they are considered by Nanny to be just too dangerous; the sirens and flashing lights that is, not the police.

As from April police officers in Kent have been told not to break the speed limit, or step outside the rules of the Highway Code when chasing criminals.

Additionally, instead of having to arrive at an emergency within 10 minutes of an emergency call, they will be told simply to "get there as quickly as it is safe to do so".

In order to drum home her message, Nanny is removing sirens and flashing lights from patrol cars.

No this is not an early April Fool's Day joke!

Supt Alan Horton, of Kent's Tactical Operations Department, sent his colleagues a memo which outlined the new "thinking" by Nanny. Flashing blue lights and sirens will become "a rare event".

Mr Horton said:

"The changes are in recognition of the frankly alarming number of Police Accidents (Polacs) throughout the country. Last year there were around 50 Polacs a day...Patrol cars will not have audible warning equipment and this is being disabled. It will be removed when the vehicle is next serviced..."

He noted:

"This might impact our response times. The counter argument is that it is better to get there a little later than not at all..."

He added:

"A basic driver cannot go outside the Road Traffic Act. This does not mean that they cannot attend emergency calls, simply that they must do so within their capabilities and within the capabilities of the vehicles."

One officer is quoted as saying:

"The figures that Supt Horton quotes are misleading as a police accident is defined as any incident with which a police vehicle is associated - whoever is to blame and even if there has been no contact between the police vehicle and the one being pursued".

He added:

"This new policy is not being announced publicly in order that Kent's criminals don't find out about it. The fact is that word will start spreading as soon as a stolen car speeds off and they see a patrol car slowing down."

"As the directive comes into force on April 1, you would be forgiven for thinking that this is an early April Fool's joke.I only wish it was.

As he says:

"The truth is that the policy is akin to waving a white flag at criminals."

Nanny is an utter fool, and has become a sick joke, she should be removed from office immediately.

The only beneficiaries of this absurd ruling will be the criminals.
