Prat of The Week - David Hanson

Prat of The WeekNanny's Orwellian named "Ministry of Justice" has decreed that the words "inmate" and "offender" are to be forever expunged from the vocabulary of prison officers.

For why?

Nanny believes that they demean the prisoners, and do not show the "respect" and "dignity" that she believes they deserve!

Nanny's Prisons' minister, David Hanson, said:

"Prison staff are expected to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and for this reason the term 'prisoner' should be used in preference to the term 'inmate'."

Adding that the term "offender" was not inappropriate.

I wonder if he will still feel the same way were he, or a member of his family, robbed/mugged/murdered?

Hanson, well deserving to win the first award of 2009 of "Prat of The Week".

Indeed a Prat of the highest order.
Yet another PC twat to add to the ever growing list of insensitive 'do gooders' who are doing absolutely no good, whatsoever.
    David Hanson.
Any chance of considering the victims' of your 'poor little scumbags'?
    It's rhetorical.
I can tell from your actions that you don't give a damn.

More PC rubbish......Still, atleast the inmate will be able to sue us if their feelings are hurt or if they injure themselves when trying to escape....The world, well this country, has gone crazy.

In my opinion, maybe 'vermin' or 'scum' are more accurate descriptions of these lowlifes.
When are these prats from the ministry of justice (for criminals)
going to consider the VICTIMS of crime rather than the perpetrators?
I will cease describing pond life in this manner, when they stop carrying out burglaries, robbings, muggings, stabbings, murders and other criminal acts: I cannot say fairer than that, can I?

Actually, I think it's much more civilised to call prisoners by their real names......step this way Mr Tony Blair, Mr Gordon Brown, MrGeoff Hoon, Mr Alastair Campbell.....get my drift???

I see that there are proposals afoot to involve we proles in meting out justice to offenders (or rather, those who suffer from moral compass disorder). Perhaps just as well that we only get to choose from a 'menu' of punishments!

I find this absolutely insulting (I don't want to be involved in punishment - I want a fair, proportionate and functioning criminal justice system to do that).

Almost as insulting as those new patronising, HMG-sponsored, anti-obesity adverts. Now that ads are on the telly for those three scourges of modern Britain, smoking, drinking and obesity, it's interesting to compare them. I'm sure that the graphics and voice-over of the anti-obesity ad reflects their view that it's a DE phenomenon whereas the message of the drinking ads is aimed at the middle class. Smokers, of course, are simply evil murderers who mustn't be allowed to inhabit the same space as other adults, let alone children.

take it hanging, flogging and a spell on the rack or iron maiden (not the heavy metal group) are not included on the menu?
