The Dangers of Flags

Flag
Congratulations to South Kesteven District Council for their contribution to the Nanny state. The health and safety "gurus" of the council have banned the town hall from flying the Union Flag on Armed Forces Day, 27 June, as climbing 8ft to reach the pole has been deemed 'too dangerous'.

The ban also applies to the St George's Cross flag, which is usually flown from the town hall on the Queen's birthday June 13.

The health and safety "gurus" are worried that the person mounting the ladder may slip and impale himself on the spiked gate below.

The irony being that the spiked gate was installed as a safety measure, to prevent people slipping and falling into a well below.

Why don't they use a "cherry picker"? Never mind the expense - the tax payer will be happy to oblige!

Nanny's H&S people are not as completely in control as they think.

On Saturday I watched a team of three attempt to erect some new panels to fit an existing large advertising hoarding. On long Aluminium ladder and 2 rechargeable screwdrivers between them. The panels must have been at least 8ftx6ft.

Very blustery wind, intermittent rain showers and not a HiViz vest or hardhat between them. Took them about 2 hours to work out how to do it then they went for lunch. Must have been a good lunch because after it they finished rather quickly and I am pleased to say using good old fashioned clambering about on the wooden frame combined with a touch of horseplay.

    Free spirits live!

I'm sure they would have no problem with a flag pole.

Why doesn't someone shove the sharp end of the flag pole up the arse of the twat who imposed this ban?
