Prats of The Week - Eastwood Town Council

Ooh err missus, it has been quite a time since I have awarded my prestigious and internationally renowned Prats of The Week Award.

Therefore, and without further ado, I take great pleasure in awarding it to Eastwood Town Council.

For why?

Ask Arthur Martin (73), Chairman of his local allotment society, who has been kicked off his allotment by the council.

For why?

Seemingly Mr Martin has a dodgy hip, which may well give way at some stage in the future.

What has this got to do with the council?

They don't want it giving way whilst Mr Martin is on the allotment.

Will Mr Martin sue them if it gives way?

I don't think so, as he has stated very clearly that health and safety is his own responsibility.

Does this mean all other people with hip replacements, and the elderly will be kicked off their allotments by the council?

Eastwood Town Council well deserving Prats of The Week!

  1. Give someone a hi-viz jacket or call them an officer because they work for Nanny, and the power goes to their head.....Little men with a bit of power.

Don't worry, now the story has seen the light of day, the officer(sic) will change their mind, say its all a misunderstanding and let the allotment holder carry on.

  2. Ken,

It's about time you brokered a deal with b3ta.com for use of their graphics regarding your content, so much commonality. ;-)

This is an appalling case of discrimination, and I hope Mr Martin contacts the Equalities Commission, who then sue the council. The only problem with that idea, upon reflection, is that the council would be fined and simply recover the money from increased council tax or cutting front line public services: you can bet your bottem dollar that the elf'n'safety department won't have its funding touched! In cases like this, the fine should be levied on the chief executive of the council: I feel sure that would motivate them into getting off their backsides and getting their act together.

This is blatant discrimination! I hope Mr Martin contacts the Equalities Commission and they take legal action against the council. The trouble with that is, on reflection, that the council would simply recover the fine by increasing their council tax or fees for services, or cutting front line service provision. A much better approach would be to change the law, so that the CEO would be legally required to pay any fines and legal costs against the council in person. If that was done, I cannot help but think councils would be run much better, as the CEOs mind would be focussed on ensuring they did.
