Single Adults Banned From Puxton Park

It is a very sad reflection on the paranoias of a society wherein single adults (ie physically on their own) are banned from public areas, lest they be paedophiles.

Such is the case of Puxton Park bird sanctuary, which has a policy of banning lone adults from admission, as Matthew Richards found to his cost.

Visited the park before with his three grandchildren, and wanted to return on his own to watch the falconry display. To no avail, he was banned on the grounds of "child protection"!

The managers of the park claim, according to the Mirror, that this rule is “in line with other parks”.

When I was a kid I was taught the simple but effective rule "don't talk to strangers, or accept sweets or get into their cars", now the message is "fear all adults".

That is not a healthy message to indoctrinate children with!

Of course this policy is not ‘in line with other parks’. If it were then this story would not have made the news.

The managers of the park clearly have no idea how to run a business. They are more concerned with bossing people around.

I feel sure that they would have no hesitation in accepting donations from single adults to keep their place open, especially when the bird sanctuary starts running into financial problems due to their mismanagement. Which it surely will.

  2. This is beyond parody, isn't it. Question. Is this a tax-payer funded park? If so, I don't think they can turn away tax paying citizens from its doors. And this guy was an easy target. You can believe that if it was a someone in a "protected class" they wouldn't be turned away. Funny how the state overreacts to this extreme, yet lets the disgrace of Rotherham go on for years right under their noses.

Sadly, this is the way our society is going.

Nanny has managed to put the fear into parents about, well, to be honest, everything!

Single issue groups and those social media outlets which encourage people to look at everything from the point of view of kids or women do society an injustice. Sadly, the paedophile in every bush myth is also promoted by the state's broadcaster.

When I was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, I too was taught not to speak to stranger nor to accept sweets nor lifts from strangers however, although I grew up in one of the roughest parts of East London, I still went out to play on my own and to join friends; this promoted a sense of being streetwise and evolved me with commonsense. I also learned from older kids who pointed out the local nutters and weirdos to avoid and I then passed that information onto my younger peers as I got older.......By wrapping kids in bubblewrap until they're in their late teens, modern parents have effectively hamstrung their kids and made them more vulnerable to being victims of predators. Too many of our youngsters have no road sense, no commonsense and are not streetwise in fact, Nanny has made they timid, lacking in self confidence and needy or, in other words; just the kind of frightened robots Nanny wants our population to be so that she can control them and provide for them.

My only comfort is that I won't be around much longer to see our nation's people sink further and further into the abyse.

It's getting like that out here in the colonies: the Legoland just north of Toronto has this policy (copied directly from their web site):

Please note: All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults (18+) must be accompanied by a child aged 17 years or younger in order to enter, unless on our specified Adult Nights

Basically it means that nobody can go in alone. This got the attention of the local media recently when an older gentleman from out of town tried to enter and was refused entry. Lego's response was to make it more obvious on their web site that unaccompanied adults will not be admitted.

Reading all the messages on their facebook page, it seems the owner is a convicted drink-driver. So that's all right then, just let someone own the place who could easily have mown over a bus-stop full of kids due to his total disregard of public safety.

This is discrimination, pure and simple. If the ban was applying to women, gays or the disabled there would, quite rightly, be howls of protest from the "yooman rites" brigade and the owners of the park would be prosecuted. As it does not concern any of these groups, the silence from such groups is totally deafening!
Totally agree with you, Ken and Tonk. Howard, your information about the owner says it all, doesn't it!
