Nanny Bans Photos - Love Croydon

Nanny Bans Photos - Love Croydon
Here is an amusing little tale from my "beloved" hometown of Croydonia (recently voted Chav Town of the Year!), as told to me by a fellow citizen of PRC (People's Republic of Croydonia).

He told me that he walking around Croydon taking photos for a competition, when he was suddenly stopped and searched by three plain clothed policemen enforcing the anti-terrorist act.

Apparently taking photographs is viewed as a suspicious activity, because we are still at threat level severe.

Nice to see, for once, Nanny didn't use the excuse that children might be present!

The competition?

Oh yes, it is called "Love Croydon".

Were it not for the fact that these restrictions are the thin end of a nasty wedge, this would be highly amusing!

Perhaps these under cover cops, enforcing the anti terrorist legislation, thought he might "blow the photographs up"

I wonder if they stop and search everyone that takes photographs in central London's tourist areas?

Congratulations on winning the Cavyest Town Award........If indeed congratulations is the right word:-))

  3. Ken,

From what I can gather, Nanny is deploying and monitoring CCTV cameras on every available street corner in the UK. At the same time, she is engaged in a sustained campaign to intimidate anyone not affiliated with the government/security establishment from taking even a single unsupervised photograph.

Ermmm . . . why does Orwell once again seem relevant here?

Who would want to take photos of Croydon anyway!

Chav it large Ken, with the new award. Burberry cap off to you.

I think a complaint to the IPCC might be in order. Just to test the temperature of the terrorism water.

Glad to see that the rossers in Croyden are engaging themselves in such a useful activity, and not wasting their resources on investigating burglaries, drug dealing, or other similar 'petty' offences.

If they do stop and serch everyone taking photographs in Central London, a) they won't have the time or resources to investigate any other crime. b) it will make this country even more of a laughing stock than it already is. And c) bearing in mind how much money is brought into the country by foreign tourists, this will have a negative effect on this as they would quite rightly, probably feel that they haven't spent their hard-earned money to visit this country to be harrassed by our security services.

What a hoot. Want to bet if the person taking the photos was in a bin sack burka (or whatever the hell it is called) the old bill would have started asking questions?

    Like hell.
