Cheese is Racist!

The media, for reasons best known to itself, chose to give the oxygen of publicity to a cult member from XR who is of the view that cheese, because some members of BAME can't digest it, is racist.

I will not name this crank (who of course is based in Brighton!), as I don't want to give her any personal publicity.

What should worry us all is not the fact that cranks such as this exist, but that the media give them a platform and act as enablers to spread their insanity!

Nanny's War On "Junk" Food Intensifies

As loyal readers know, Nanny hates "junk" food and is doing her best to remove it from our diets.

Aside from wanting to ban adverts for it on TV and social media, specific products have been attacked; eg Tom Watson has attacked the McDonald's Monopoly promotion (as it encourages people to eat more!).

All very well and good, maybe. However, does Nanny actually have a definition of what "junk" food actually is?

I ask, because according to rumours on Twitter I understand that Nanny wants to ban adverts for cheese, as she feels that cheese comes under "junk" food!

The Joy of Rationing - Nanny's Brexit Excuse

It seems to me that Nanny is positively champing at the bit to introduce rationing of dairy products, sugar, salt, booze, fags etc etc - for the "good" of our health.

Brexit gives her the perfect excuse!

Eat More Cheese

Contrary to Nanny's current advice, and reminiscent of her advice some decades ago, it is now deemed good for you to eat more cheese.

The Telegraph reports that eating cheese could stop you from developing liver cancer and boost liver health, according to new research.

The study, from Texas A&M University, found that aged cheeses such as brie and cheddar have the potential of boosting life expectancy by up to 25 per cent.

This is because these cheeses contain a compound called 'spermidine', though to prevent liver fibrosis and 'hepatocellular carcinoma', the most common type of liver cancer.

I dare say in a few years time, scientists will discover that smoking is in fact good for you (as they believed in the 17th century).

Eat More Semen To Live Longer

As per an article published in Nature Medicine oral supplementation of the natural polyamine spermidine extends the lifespan of mice and exerts cardioprotective effects, reducing cardiac hypertrophy and preserving diastolic function in old mice.

In humans, high levels of dietary spermidine, as assessed from food questionnaires, correlated with reduced blood pressure and a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease. Our results suggest a new and feasible strategy for protection against cardiovascular disease.

In other words spermidine helps you live longer.

Where does one find natural sources of spermidine?

In semen and aged cheese.

Nanny Orders Everyone To Take Vitamin D Supplements

According to research carried out by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN), everyone should consider taking vitamin D supplements in autumn and winter.

Nanny's sets the recommended levels at 10 micrograms of the vitamin a day.

Now a long time ago, before Nanny came along, most people who had normal diets and exposed themselves to the sun were able to ingest enough vitamin D without the need for supplements.

However, the main sources of vitamin D are sunlight, dairy products, eggs etc.

Can you tell me children what the problem with the above list is?

Yes, that's right, Nanny hates all of the above and has lectured us day and night to avoid sunlight, dairy products and eggs.

In other words the current estimates of one in five adults and one in six children in England having low levels of vitamin D are most likely caused by Nanny's advice wrt sunshine and food products!

The solution to living a healthy, happy life is to ignore everything that Nanny tells you.

Cheese As Addictive As Hard Drugs

Apparently, according to a study published in the Public Library of Science One, cheese contains a chemical found in addictive drugs

Using the Yale Food Addiction Scale, designed to measure a person’s dependence on, scientists found that cheese is particularly potent because it contains casein.

The substance, which is present in all dairy products, can trigger the brain’s opioid receptors which are linked to addiction.

Nanny Bans Cheese

My thanks to several loyal readers who pointed me in the direction of a really absurd piece of Nanny nonsense, concerning cheese.

Britain has many traditions/events, some of which go back centuries. Sadly, in the age of Nanny, many of these are now frowned upon (lest they encourage individuality and freedom of expression).

One such event that Nanny does not like is the annual cheese rolling event on Cooper's Hill Gloucester, which involves people chasing a 7lb wheel of Double Gloucester down the hill this bank holiday weekend.

For the last 25 years the cheese has been made by Diana Smart at Churcham Farm.

So far so good!

Step forward Nanny's chums from Gloucestershire Police, who have warned Mrs Smart that she may be regarded as "responsible" as "organiser" if anyone were to be injured during the cheese rolling.

She was quoted by the BBC:
"It made me feel pretty angry... there's not a lot we can do."
A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said:
"Advice has been given to all those who have participated in any planning of an unofficial cheese rolling event this coming bank holiday.

This included the individuals who provide the cheese.

We feel it is important that those who, by law, could be constituted as organisers of the event that they are aware of the responsibilities that come with it so that they can make an informed decision about their participation."
Glad to see that in the midst of all the other national crime headlines, that the Gloucestershire Police have their priorities "right"!

Ooh La La! - Salty Cheese Is Good For You

Loyal readers will recall that barely a few weeks ago I wrote about Nanny's anti cheese campaign (based on the fact that cheese contains salt, which Nanny hates).

Seemingly Nanny's most hated of cheeses is Roquefort, not because it is French but because it has the highest levels of salt.

Anyhoo, but a few weeks on and some scientists from Lycotec (a Cambridge bio-tech company) have discovered that Roquefort has specific anti-inflammatory properties that may account for the “French paradox”; wherein people who live in France enjoy good health despite favouring a diet high in saturated fat.

The properties of the cheese were found to work best in acidic environments of the body, such as the lining of the stomach or the skin surface. According to the Telegraph acidification is also a common process accompanying inflammation such as in joints affected by arthritis or special plaque on an artery wall.

The team from Lycotec said:
Molded cheeses, including Roquefort, may be even more favourable to cardiovascular health.”
So there you are, not only is salt good for your heart but the fat in the cheese must be good for it as well!.

As I have noted many times before, the body is like an engine; it needs fat/oil in the blood in order to help the blood flow smoothly through the veins!

I dare say that Stilton has exactly the same effect.

Nanny Bans The Ploughman's Lunch

My thanks to Macheath who, based on yesterday's article about Nanny banning cheese, has unearthed Nanny's sinister plot to ban the Ploughman's Lunch!
"So now it's cheese...

Prof Graham McGregor, September 2011:
"It is frankly outrageous that bread still contains so much salt. The Department of Health needs to ensure that [...] all manufacturers reduce the salt of bread to less than the target of 1g per 100g."

Meanwhile, at the CASH website:
'Avoid salty spreads such as mustard, salted butter and pickle'

Bit by bit, he's basically declaring war on the ploughman's lunch

Nanny Hates Cheese

Oh dear oh dear, I see our old chums from Consensus Action on Salt and Health (Cash) are on the warpath again.

This time they are ranting about the amount of salt put into cheese.

Seemingly the most salty cheese is roquefort.

Cash keep prattling on that salt intake should be less than 6g a day.

Bollocks!

The amount of salt intake that is "safe" depends on the age, health, size, fluid intake and sweat of an individual.

Cash chairman Prof Graham MacGregor is quoted by the BBC:
"Even small reductions will have large health benefits. For every one gram reduction in population salt intake we can prevent 12,000 heart attacks, stroke and heart failure, half of which would have been fatal.

The Department of Health must now stop its delaying tactics and set new much lower targets for cheese manufacturers, and make sure they achieve them. The cheese industry must comply if we are to save the maximum number of lives."
Piss off!

I like strong salty cheese, it is not Nanny's place to dictate to me what type of cheese I can eat.

What is it with these single issue groups that makes them think that they have the right to dictate to us what we may or may not drink, eat, smoke or imbibe?

Dr Judith Bryans, director of the Dairy Council, notes that Cash is using dodgy research to justify its own warped philosophy:
"The Cash survey is mixing up the effect of cheese on health with the effect of salt on health.

Cheese provides a wide range of nutrients including protein, vitamins and important minerals such as calcium.

Salt is an integral part of the cheese-making process. It is not added for taste or flavour but for safety and technical reasons.

Cheese manufacturers have worked very hard to reduce salt levels in their products and worked constructively and positively with government agencies to do this whilst producing products which are nutritious, safe and acceptable to the consumer."

The Dangers of Cheese

I am sad to read the news, but not surprised (in fact more surprised that Nanny hasn't stopped this event before), that the Cooper's Hill annual cheese rolling event has been cancelled.

For why?

Health and safety!

Seemingly Nanny is worried about the number of people that turn up to the event.

Isn't it odd how dictatorships and Nanny both hate people congregating in groups?

Anyhoo, the local police and council didn't like the idea that 15,000 people may turn up (as they did last year), and so the event has been cancelled.

Cheese rolling had, until Nanny came along, been staged at Cooper's Hill for around 400 years.

Prats of The Week - Sainsbury's Again!

Prats of The WeekTis time loyal readers for another Prats of The Week Award.

This week, as many of you may have guessed, it goes to Sainsbury's (again!).

For why?

Well my old muckers, it seems that they had a wee bit of a bust up with one of their pregnant customers (Janet Lehain) over the issue of cheese.

Mrs Lehain asked for some Canadian Cheddar while she was shopping at Sainsbury's Clapham.

However, Sainsbury's is a fully paid up supporter of the Nanny state. As such the member of staff serving her refused to sell it to her.

Errmmm...for why?

Seemingly, according to the member of staff, it was made from unpasteurised milk and constitutes a danger to pregnant women.

Factoid: it transpires that pregnant women are advised to avoid eating ripened soft cheeses of the Brie, Camembert and blue-veined types, whether pasteurised or unpasteurised. Hard cheeses such as Cheddar can be safely eaten during pregnancy.

Mrs Lehain, unlike some people, was not prepared to take this lying down and said that she was aware of the current medical advice and wanted to buy the cheese.

Mrs Lehain, finally having extricated the cheese from the jobsworth, wrote a letter of complaint:

"What followed was the most patronising encounter I have had the misfortune of experiencing in a long time and made worse by the fact it was entirely unexpected given the seemingly simple task.

The member of staff told me how lucky my generation of pregnant women are to have such information available to them because this was not the case 'in her day'.

I could only respond by saying that I thought pregnant women in the past were probably a whole lot less stressed and guilt-ridden as a result.

I asked if I could have the cheese if I promised not to eat any of it. How ridiculous that I had to openly lie in order to buy a piece of cheese!

Even if I were ignorant of the risks associated with this period in a woman's life it is not the job of a supermarket to tell people what they should or not be eating.

Indeed if I am missing something, and the Government in its wisdom has made supermarkets guardians of public health without me noticing, then I should like to leave the country now
."

Sainsbury's ended up making some grudging apology. However, it seems that they still believe that their policy of delivering unwanted "health advice" is correct.

I wonder if they do the same for pregnant women who buy booze and fags?

Quite why supermarkets now choose to act as Nanny's lickspittles is beyond me. I assume that they feel that they will get some favour in return.

Sainsbury's, well deserving Prats of The Week!

Nanny Unbans Dairy

Those of you of a certain age (mid 40's and beyond) will doubtless recall the health advice of the era when we were kiddy winkies, about the benefits of drinking milk and eating dairy products.

Indeed, the state even gave children free milk each day in school. Government cuts in the early 70's put paid to the free milk, but the advice about the benefits of consuming dairy products continued.

NB: Historical note, contrary to the popular myth of the time, Maggie Thatcher was not the person responsible for cutting free school milk (she had to implement the policy); it was Ted Heath who ordered it to be cut.

Anyhoo, up to the age of around 14 or so I was consuming around 3 pints of milk a day at home and look at me now!

As time moved on Nanny, in her infinite wisdom, took advice from so called "medical experts" who decreed that milk and dairy products were in fact bad for people.

The "Butchers' profession" has a higher than average percentage of people who are substance abusers (ie booze, fags and drugs). Quite why Nanny is so enthralled with their advice, everytime they change their mind about something, I don't know (remember they used to be very keen on bleeding people).

Anyhoo, plus ca change, the Butchers' profession has now decreed that dairy products are in fact good for children. Children who eat plenty of dairy foods such as milk and cheese can expect to live longer, according to a study by the University of Bristol and Australia's Queensland Institute of Medical Research.

Despite dairy containing artery furring fat and cholesterol, high consumption does not raise the heart disease risk!

I could have told Nanny that!

Needless to say not everyone wants to accept this, Joanne Murphy of The Stroke Association said:

"This is an interesting study, but we need to take a further look to really assess the benefits of milk in reducing the chances of dying from stroke.

In the meantime, we advise parents to opt for a diet rich in fruit and vegetables and low in saturated fat and salt for the overall health of their children
."

Piffle!

Nanny Doesn't Ban Cheese

Nanny Doesn't Ban CheeseFurther to my earlier article about Nanny banning cheese adverts, I am pleased to say that it would seem that she has been overruled on another cheese related matter.

Namely, the cheese rolling contest of Cooper's Hill in Brockworth.

The cheese rolling contest takes place annually, and involves rolling an 8lb Double Gloucester (shaped like a wheel) down Cooper's Hill. The competitors chase the cheese.

This Monday Bank Holiday, around 3,000 spectators gathered in the rain to cheer the cheese chasers, who stumble and tumble 200m down Cooper's Hill (which has a 1 in 3 gradient).

Jason Crowther from Pembrokeshire, won the first of the five races and is now the proud owner of a large cheese.

Quote:

"There's no training you can do for this.

You have just got to go for it.

It was a bit slippery and I heard something crack,

which I think was my knee.

But there aren't any tactics involved

as you can probably see
."

The winners keep the cheese, runners-up get £10 and £5 for finishing third.

Twenty people were treated for minor injuries, paramedics said, down from 34 last year.

The event is thought to have its roots in a heathen festival to celebrate the return of spring.

Congratulations to the good people of Cooper's Hill, for ignoring Nanny and her minions. As Richard Jeffries, the event organiser, said:

"There are various people who would like to

see it stopped but it's a British tradition
."

Long may they continue to stick two fingers up to Nanny!

Nanny Bans Cheese

Nanny Bans CheeseIt is reassuring to know that given all the possible threats to children's well being (eg drugs, alcohol abuse, lousy education, Big Brother, celebrity morons etc) Nanny has highlighted the gravest threat yet.

Cheese!

Yes, that's right, cheese!

Nanny's poodles in Ofcom, the broadcast regulator, have recently adopted a nutrient profiling model to ban "junk food" promotions to children.

So far so stupid, now here's where it becomes particularly stupid.

Under the formula, devised by Nanny's Food Standards Agency, cheese is deemed to be a food high in fat and salt and therefore cannot be advertised during teatime programmes or on Saturday morning TV.

Cheese promotions are also banned during programmes such as Hollyoaks and Friends, popular viewing among early teenagers.

Not surprisingly cheesemakers are a bit pissed off at the "demonisation" of their product.

One industry insider said:

"Without a central coordinated approach to food education,

the Government – and the current architecture of government

– allows for renegade agencies to dictate policy

without portfolio and send out messages that

are ill-conceived and potentially devastating
."

In other words, Nanny allows knobheads to dictate policy.

I assume butter, milk and eggs are now also banned from being advertised during children's' TV?

Nanny Bans Junk Food Ads...Or Does She?

Nanny Bans Junk Food Ads...Or Does She?Nanny really does have a bee in her proverbial bonnet, when it comes to what we eat. She is obsessed by the quantity and quality of foods that we stuff into our gobs.

One might almost think that she had some unfortunate experience as a child, that has turned her into this rather unpleasant and interfering analy retentive individual.

Anyhoo, Nanny's latest assault on what we eat and on what we are allowed to choose to eat comes in the form of her recently announced plans to restrict junk food TV ads, by banning junk food ads during children's TV schedules.

Nanny is trying to stop children from seeing the evil products spewed out by those most hated (in Nanny's world) institutions McDonald's, KFC etc etc.

You know, it's a funny old world, less than two centuries ago many people in the West were starving; they were on nutrition levels that resemble today's third world countries. In the modern West, we have access to cheap, high calorie food; undreamed of by our ancestors. The fact that some of us may overindulge is a matter of personal taste and personal common sense (or rather lack of common sense).

However, for Nanny to repeat the mantra that high calorie, cheap, readily available food is evil; is just plain wrong. Mankind has suffered and struggled for millennia to find cheap readily available foodstuffs, Nanny is flying in the face to logic and human history to try to "pooh pooh" what is in effect one of mankind's most worthy achievements.

Anyhoo, I digress, it seems that Nanny's plans to block children from seeing the products of these evil companies, during children's TV schedules, will come to now't.

Why?

Children don't just watch children's programmes, they also watch adult programmes such as Coronation Street. "Junk food"...let us call it what it really is cheap, affordable, high calorie foodstuffs will still be advertised ruing adult shows.

Which? says that the plans, drawn up by Nanny's chums in Ofcom, are "fundamentally flawed".

Ofcom will try to ban ads for McDonald's et al during Spongebob Squarepants, but will not ban them during eg Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Take-Away; the latter has over one million child viewers.

Additionally, the Ofcom formula for deciding where advertisements will be banned is very complex and based on the programme type plus the make-up and mix of the audience, rather than the number of children watching. A ban will only apply if the proportion of the audience under 16 is more than 20% higher than the proportion of under-16s in the UK population as a whole.

There is also some question mark over what foods are evil; after all butter, cheese and milk are high in fat. Should they be banned from children's hour?

When I was at primary school, I had a free bottle of milk everyday as part of the state's policy of encouraging milk drinking.

Now I learn that it is high in fat, should I sue the state for force feeding me milk as child?

Tuck Off!

Tuck OffNanny's hatred of individual liberty and freedom knows no bounds, as Ryan Staples found to his cost the other week.

Ryan, who is only 10 years old, was in the habit of taking a packed lunch to his school (Lunsford primary in Larkfield). At least he was, until the school's Gestapo intercepted his lunch box.

Ryan's crime?

The lunch box broke Nanny's rules on what we are allowed to eat.

The result?

Ryan has been banned from eating with the rest of his mates in the school dining room, until he learns to bow his head to Nanny's superior wisdom, and until he brings only "allowed" food in his lunch box.

Whilst he weighs up the pros and cons of bending to Nanny's authoritarian rules, he has to eat alone in the headmaster's office. That really is cruel and nasty.

How pathetic is this?

Child abuse wouldn't you say?

By the way, in case you are wondering what was so evil about the food within his lunchbox (drugs maybe?), it contained two snacks, instead of one.

Specifically Ryan's lunch consisted of a sandwich, fruit, fromage frais, cake, mini cheese biscuits and a bottle of water. The cake and the biscuits broke the snack limit.

They were "discovered" when a teacher checked his lunch box.

Why the hell are teachers inspecting lunch boxes?

That is an invasion of privacy, all the more so because Ryan is not old enough to fight back.

Malcolm Goddard, the headmaster, said:

"We take healthy eating very seriously and everyone is aware of our new policies."

Breathtaking arrogance!

As a child I took a lunchbox to school, it contained all manner of weird and wonderful oddities; banana sandwiches, chocolate cup cakes, hot soup, home made crisps etc.

The teachers never ever tried to inspect the food, or interfere with what we ate (they were down the pub). I am now 44, and in good shape (oh yes:)).

Nanny quite clearly intends to break the will and spirit of every citizen in Britain, she starts with the children so as to make her task easier.

The Evils of Food

The Evils of Food
Nanny is getting her knickers into a twist again over food. Specifically adverts for food that Nanny believes to be evil, eg chocolate bars, crisps and fizzy drinks.

Nanny's chums in the Food Standards Agency (FSA) think that these "evil" foods should be treated like sex, ie we shouldn't have any and that they should be banned from television before 9pm.

The FSA is pressing for a pre-watershed ban on all junk food commercials to improve children's health.

Nanny thinks that junk food adverts are a major contributor to the alleged epidemic of childhood obesity.

Er is it not up to parents to regulate their childrens' diets, and to make sure they get enough exercise?

I wonder how Nanny will define junk food?

Too much fat and salt maybe?

Does that mean adverts for cheese, butter, milk and salt will be banned?

To repeat, it is up to parents to control their childrens' diets not the state!
