The Dangers of Teaspoons

Tea Danger
I see that Nanny's prats in the supermarkets are up to their old tricks again.

This time Tesco, a store mentioned on this site on more than one occasion, has caused Emma Sheppard some degree of annoyance.

Ms Sheppard (21) was doing some shopping in Tesco Evesham, and included within her trolley a packet of teaspoons.

Can you guess what happened next children?

Yes, that's right, Tesco demanded to see proof of age from Ms Sheppard.

For why?

Well my loyal readers it seems that, in Tesco's eyes, teaspoons are dangerous and as such you need to be over 25 in order to buy them.

Ms Sheppard didn't have any id on her, and therefore was banned from buying the teaspoons.

The Nanny state robs people of their common sense and their liberties.

Tesco clearly needs to be dealt with in a manner that hurts them where they feel the most pain; in their bottom line.

Nanny Bans Plastic Cutlery

What The F!
I must admit that I had thought that I had seen the end of this absurd piece of Nannyism from our "rule creating" supermarkets, wrt asking for id for teaspoons etc.

How wrong I was.

I am told by one of my correspondents (aged 25) that this time our old friends from Tesco (one of their stores in Liverpool City Centre) has asked for proof of age id (whereby the store operative signs off that the purchaser is over 18) for cutlery.

I suppose it can be argued that as cutlery contains knives, that could be construed as a potentially dangerous purchase.

However, here's the rub, the cutlery for which age id was required was not metal, wood or ivory but PLASTIC!!!

Tesco Plastic Cutlery

Why can't a child (a person under 18) buy plastic cutlery? They seem well able to buy drugs, booze, weapons and porn without much bovver.

You can join the Army before you are 18, yet Tesco won't let you buy plastic cutlery until you are 18.

Nanny doesn't need to enact any more legislation to take away our personal freedoms, her apparatchiks in supermarkets etc are doing all her work for her!

BTW, I can't be bothered to register to look through the Tesco site but am advised that for some reason or other the plastic cutlery cannot be found on the Tesco site. Can anyone validate this?

Nanny Bans Teaspoons IV

It would appear from this follow up comment, made by the contributor of the Asda teaspoon story, that Asda are not the only supermarket imposing an id rule for the purchase of teaspoons.

"I sent the original photo in. Asda can deny it all they like but they'd be lying if they did. I've seen the receipt & I still have the photo of it on my phone - it says 'teaspoons', 'ID required, 18', my wife has it in her possession. She is not a liar, neither am I.

In the spirit of mischief my wife went to Tesco today & tried to purchase 2 latte teaspoons (the long handled & therefore potentially lethal variety) using the self service checkout.

Sure enough an assistant was required & she was asked for proof of ID. You need to be over 18.

What kind of insanity is this? I urge everyone to go to their local supermarket & buy spoons - use the self service checkout to force an assistant to make you provide ID. Then refuse to provide it.

If they insist on this moronic rule, walk out & leave the stuff where it is: it's not yours until you've paid for it
."

In the spirit of the above, I suggest that we conduct a series of tests, the length and breadth of the country, to id which supermarket chains and stores require id for the purchase of teaspoons.

Those that require an id should be named, shamed and boycotted.

Please post your findings on this site.

The Dangers of Teaspoons

Teaspoons
My thanks to Paul, a regular follower of this site, who alerted me to an Nannyism that one of his wife's colleagues recently experienced when shopping in a Halifax branch of Asda.

The lady was trying to buy some teaspoons, and was flabbergasted to find that she needed ID.

The assistant informed her that it was because someone had murdered someone with a teaspoon, and therefore ID was now required.

What complete and utter bollocks!

By that reasoning they should also require id for numerous other times that they sell (lest they be used to kill people) eg:

- stockings can be used to strangle
- socks can be used to chock people
- cleaning fluids can be used to poison
- forks can be used to stab people
- frozen legs of lamb can be used to bludgeon people with etc

Asda are a bunch of Nanny loving twats!

Please fee free to add to the list of other "murder" weapons sold by Asda, then drop them a line via this feedback form Asda.

Nanny Bans Pancakes Again

Nanny Bans Pancakes AgainHappy Shrove Tuesday everyone!

Traditionally a day when people mix a batter of flour, eggs and milk and toss it frantically in a frying pan.

Well that was the tradition, until Nanny put her nose into things. Three years ago I wrote about Nanny banning pancakes, now she is up to her old tricks again.

The Shrove Tuesday annual pancake race in Ripon has been scrapped this year because of health and safety considerations.

The revived event (originally dating back 600 years) has been carried out for the last 11 years in modern times; with local children, traders, clergy and soldiers taking part.

Unfortunately, Nanny's health and safety Gestapo have put their size ten jackboots into the batter and have caused the event to be cancelled.

For why?

The Dean of Ripon, the Very Rev Keith Jukes, co-organiser of the races, explained:

"We have looked at this and there are a number of reasons it won't take place and a big reason sadly this year is health and safety.

Any organisation which runs an event has to go through a number of risk assessments. The insurance companies demand it and in the end you have to work out whether it's a risk you take.

There is also the whole issue of road closures which can be an expensive business
."

Pass the sick bag someone!

A risk assessment for a pancake race?

The insurance companies, and councils that kowtow to them, are destroying the fabric of people's daily lives.

It is time that these two malign influences on our lives were cut out from society, in the manner that one would cut out a scrofulous tumour.

In order to really annoy Nanny, here is a nice recipe for Swedish pancakes; go on, live a little!

Ingredients

- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Lingonberries or raspberries
- Seedless raspberry jam or fruit spread, warmed Whipped topping

Preparation

In a blender, combine the first six ingredients. Cover and process until blended. Heat a lightly greased 8-in. nonstick skillet; pour 1/4 cup batter into centre of skillet. Lift and tilt pan to evenly coat bottom.

Cook until top appears dry; turn and cook 15-20 seconds longer. Repeat with remaining batter, adding oil to skillet as needed. Stack pancakes with waxed paper or paper towels in between. Reheat in the microwave if desired.

Fold pancakes into quarters; serve with berries, raspberry jam and whipped topping.

Please note it contains eggs, milk, salt and sugar...all the things that Nanny hates!

Happy Shrove Tuesday everyone!

Get tossing!

Nanny Bans Cornish Pasties

Nanny Bans Cornish PastiesDear oh dear, things must be getting pretty desperate in the nursery.

Even by Nanny's standards, she has scraped the proverbial barrel with this incursion into a harmless activity.

This time Nanny vented her spleen on poor old Dave Polley, who was driving his car and innocently munching on a Cornish pasty.

When he had munched all of the filling, he found that he was left with some of the crust.

Now I know that we should eat our crusts up as well; but Dave did what many of us are inclined to do, he lobbed the crust out of the window for the birds to eat.

Unfortunately for him, in the car behind him was an officious git from Penwith District Council who is one of their anti litter officers.

Can you guess what happened next?

Yes, that's right.

Instead of seeing reason, and using common sense, the "officious git" gave Mr Polley a ticket and fined him.

Rumour has it that Penwith District Council are now patrolling parks, looking to arrest people for feeding the ducks.

Common sense has long since flown out of the window.

Those of you who want to make one, and send it as a gift to Penwith District Council or simply eat it yourselves can try this recipe.

Cornish Pasties Recipe

Cornish Pasties originated in Cornwall as a handy way for miners to take their lunch to work.

Shortcrust pastry encases a mixture of finely chopped meat and vegetables.

Ingredients

10 oz flour
A pinch of salt
4 oz of cold butter
1 to 3 tablespoons of water

8 oz of cubed beef
2 potatoes
1 swede/turnip
1 medium onion
salt & pepper
2 tablespoons of fresh parsley
¼ teaspoon of mustard
2 teaspoons of tomato sauce / ketchup (optional)
1 egg

Short Pastry

In a large bowl or food processor sift the flour and salt, cut the cold butter into small cubes and add to the flour.

Rub the butter into the flour with your hands or using the food processor, until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Make a well in the centre and add sufficient water to mix to a firm dough.

Handle as little as possible as this prevents the pastry from becoming hard when it is baked.

Roll into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Filling

Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.

Put the cubed meat into a large bowl.

Chop the onion finely, and add to the meat.

Peel the potatoes and swedturnipip, cut into very small cubes.

Mix thoroughly with the meat, add the seasonings (a little water may be added to moisten) and cover.

On a lightly floured bench or board roll the pastry out to around 1/8 inch thick.

Cut 6 rounds, using a 6 1/2 inch diameter plate as a guide.

Arrange the filling evenly in the centre of each round.

Lightly beat the egg and glaze the edge of each round with a pastry brush.

Lift the two opposite edges of the pastry and pull together over the filling.

Pinch at regular intervals along the edge to form a frill.

Brush each pasty with egg and place on a baking tray.

Bake for 3/4 to 1 hour.

Eat hot or cold.

Nanny Bans Pancakes

Nanny Bans PancakesToday is Shrove Tuesday, doubtless many of you will be "tossing away" like mad; as you gorge yourselves to death on homemade pancakes.

However, I must caution you, Nanny has her beady little eye on the whole pancake experience.

Not only are they rather fattening, you know how she hates fat people, but they are now deemed to be a health and safety issue as well.

Nanny's chums in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) predict, in a report issued today, that around 250 people will end up in hospital after cooking pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.

Do these people have nothing better to do?

The dangers include:

- Burning you hands on hot frying pans

- Burns from spitting fat

- Excess tossing leading to pancakes landing on people's heads and wrists

Please, give us a break Nanny!

Nanny's Pnacake Safety SuitNanny is so concerned about the dangers, that she has designed a special safety suit to be worn when cooking and tossing.

Should the number of accidents not fall, she will ban pancakes altogether.

You have been warned!

Therefore, in order to really annoy Nanny, here is a nice recipe for Swedish pancakes; go on, live a little!

Ingredients

- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
