The Joy of Sausages

I am gemused to see that Nanny is getting her knickers in a twist again over the "dangers" posed to our health of processed meats such as bangers.

According to "research" carried out in 10 EU countries, and published in BMC Medicine, sausages, ham, bacon and other processed meats "appear" to increase the risk of dying young.

Nanny is worried about the chemicals and salt added to processed meats (not though worried about the horsemeat injected with equine drugs fraudulently added to the food chain!).

Bizarrely, instead of focusing on the chemical issues, the British Heart Foundation has suggested opting for leaner cuts of meat.

What the fark has that got to do with the chemicals on processed meats?

Anyhoo, the "research" is of course bollocks, because those who died within the survey were also more likely to smoke, be obese and have other behaviours known to damage health; ie to blame their deaths on processed meat is utter nonsense!

Eat what you like, just make sure you don't eat to excess and that you vary your diet.

I had Cumberland Sausages for dinner last night, and very tasty they were too!

I'm not keen on mustard, personally, but I certainly like sausage sandwiches!

I suppose it depends where you buy the sausages.
Supermarkets sell the cheapest sourced crap at the highest possible price, as has been proved by the recent horse meat debacle.

They have absolutely no idea what is contained in their sausages, and what is more, they don’t fucking care.
They will scour the world for cheap food, forcing down standards as a consequence. They do this to boost their own profits and not to ensure a better deal for their customers.

Can there be anyone in the UK who still believes that their organic/ethically sourced/free range/fair trade/sustainable sourced food, which they have been paying a premium for, is anything else than the usual shit in different packaging?

P.S. A PROPER sausage would not need mustard on it to taste good!

The first thought I had when I first read this research was I wonder how many of those that died were poor and thus had a poor diet....A good sausage is delicious and contains quality cuts: I buy mine from a good butcher, never a supermarket.

Everything in moderation and you won't go far wrong.
