Nanny's Boozing Bollocks

As loyal readers know, Nanny has being doing her best to vilify alcohol and those who drink it. This is kind of ironic given how much booze politicians, health professionals and the "socialist pretending" middle classes put away!

Anyhoo, the ONS has published a report on the boozing habits of adults in the UK in 2017:

• In Great Britain, 57.0% of Opinions and Lifestyle Survey respondents aged 16 years and over in 2017 drank alcohol, which equates to 29.2 million people in the population.
• Young people aged 16 to 24 years in Great Britain are less likely to drink than any other age group; when they do drink, consumption on their heaviest drinking day tends to be higher than other ages.
• 20.4% of survey respondents reported that they did not drink alcohol at all.

Disregarding the fact that people's memories and responses are highly "suspect", when it comes to surveys such as this, it is noteworthy to see that the percentage of  16-24 years olds who claim to be teetotal has risen from 19% in 2005 to 22.8% in 2017.

Needless to say Nanny and her tame media are quick to ignore this:

1 Nanny keeps banging on about increasing the number of "nudge" campaigns and health awareness projects targeting young drinkers.

2 The Times happily reports that a "third of under 25s now drink now alcohol (22.8% is not a third!).

In other words, whatever the reality, Nanny and her lackeys will continue to force her narrative and poisonous views down our throats!

2011 Census Figures Disputed

Unsurprisingly (given that it is prepared by the remarkably unreliable ONS) the accuracy of the 2011 census data (released yesterday) is already being disputed.

The Telegraph reports:

"Local authorities who simply do not recognise the figures for their areas. The 2011 census reveals that the official numbers have previously understated the scale of net migration by 14 per cent – and that does not take into account illegal immigrants, who would not complete the census form. 

Westminster city council in London said it had “serious concerns” about figures that suggested its population had dropped by 9 per cent since the last estimate a year ago, while the council’s own data report a rise in numbers paying council tax."

Hey hoh!

2011 Census Results

If anyone is interested, Nanny's Orifice of National Statistics (the body that regularly screws up financial data) is releasing the results of the 2011 Census:

• On census night the population in England and Wales was 56.1 million, 53.0 million in England and 3.1 million in Wales. This was the largest the population had ever been.
• The population of England and Wales grew by 3.7 million in the 10 years since the last census, rising from 52.4 million in 2001, an increase of 7.1 per cent. This was the largest growth in the population in England and Wales in any 10-year period since census taking began, in 1801.
• The median age of the population in England and Wales was 39. For men, the median age was 38 and for women it was 40. In 1911, the median age was 25.
• The percentage of the population aged 65 and over was the highest seen in any census at 16.4 per cent, that is one in six people in the population was 65 and over.
• There were 430,000 residents aged 90 and over in 2011 compared with 340,000 in 2001 and 13,000 in 1911.
• In 2011, there were 3.5 million children under five in England and Wales, 406,000 more than in 2001. 

Apparently, if Twitter is to be believed, around 6M people did not fill it in (this figure is suspect until verified). In theory this could generate Nanny £6BN, at £1K per head.

Drink Matters - You Grow Old, You Die

Yawwwnnnn!!!..

I see that the "ever reliable" Orifice for Nationals Statistics (the organ that understated inflation for several years, because it "forgot" to include certain types of clothing in its stats) has come up with a statistic that is entirely meaningless (expect to Nanny).

Seemingly, if the ONS is to be believed, the death rate from alcohol is lower among the most advantaged classes (eg lawyers, busyness people etc) until they reach middle age. After that the death rates rise as this "class" grows older.

Put simply, as you grow older booze is more likely to be a possible contributory factor towards you death.

Cynics might argue that old age may also be a "contributory factor" to death as well.

One might also argue (without the aid of ONS stats) that whilst at the age of 20 downing the equivalent of 15 pints probably won't kill you in one go, doing that at the age of 70 might have a more than adverse effect.

Having said that, I well recall assisting my late father (on more than one occasion) when he was in his 70's/early 80's after he had consumed an "elegant sufficiency" of whisky (which would have debilitated a youngster). He didn't die in his late 80's of booze!

Anyhoo, whatever the reality we can be assured that Nanny will make mischief with these "findings".
