Prats of The Week - The Middle Common Room Magdalen College Oxford

Dear oh dear, who would have thought that what was once one of the best universities in the world would end up as a breeding ground for utter prattery?

I refer of course to the decision by the students of the Middle Common Room of Magdalen College Oxford to remove the portrait of The Queen from their room, lest it offends someone.

The students there have every right to hang pictures of whatever they wish on their walls (eg Rhodes), and have every right to remove a picture of the Queen.

However, the reasons they chose to remove the picture (ie that it might "offend" someone because of issues to do with the days of empire) are feeble-minded to say the least.

1 The Queen came to the throne when Britain was already dismantling her empire.

2 The Queen is the head of state.

3 Monarchs have had connections to Oxford for centuries.

4 If you are offended by a picture of the head of state then seek therapy.

Simply put, if that is the best intellectual argument they can come up with then Oxford needs to radically overhaul its admissions policy; because it is clear that they are currently admitting feeble-minded idiots!

Auntie Creates A Shit Show Out of Nothing - The Queen and The Paradise Papers

Auntie dragged herself down to new depths last night, by making her lead news item the fact that the Queen has £10M in an offshore vehicle of some sort or another.

Aside from the fact that in terms of this country's finances £10M is chicken feed, Auntie then went on to say that the Queen has in fact done nothing wrong and that as she is not legally required to pay tax she therefore cannot be accused of trying to avoid tax (which by the way is perfectly legal for rich and poor alike).

Are there really so few genuine issues, both domestically and globally, that Auntie is reduced to this form of shit show?

The Queen Is A Binge Drinker

The Independent revisits an article from 2012 written to coincide with the Diamond Jubilee of The Queen.

According to Margaret Rhodes, the Queen's cousin, HM's alcohol intake never varies. She takes a gin and Dubonnet before lunch, with a slice of lemon and a lot of ice. She will take wine with lunch and a dry Martini and a glass of champagne in the evening.

That comes to 6 units per day, which would make Her Majesty a binge drinker by Nanny's standards.

Nanny states that men and women should not exceed 14 units per week.

If Rhodes is correct, and this is indeed how much Queen Elizabeth drinks per day, then she is on 40.6 units per week.

It warms the cockles of my heart to learn the Her Majesty is sticking two fingers up to Nanny.
