Nanny Bans Fag Displays
Nanny's ban on the display of fags will do now't to reduce the levels of smoking. Bans, whether they are of fags, drugs, sex or fast foods, merely make the product/service all the more appealing.
When will Nanny learn this?
Given that many MPs are unhealthy, overweight, substance abusers I find it a bit rich that they are telling us how to live our lives.
We are all destined to die one day, how and when we choose to do it are our own affair.

ReplyDeleteI agree, the one way you can guarantee to get a kid to do something, is to tell him not to.
I am a non smoker....I've never even tried one but, I know if we let Nanny continue to persecute those that smoke, once she's achieved her goal, she will move on to her next thing to ban.....We already are seeing the start of her next campaign namely, alcohol and eating.
I am getting fed up with Nanny's constant stream of TV adverts telling we what to do and what to think.....I would love to know how much money Nanny spends per year on TV and Radio propaganda, including the money she spends via her agencies and quangos.....I bet it would buy a few bottles of Chateaux Margaux if it were in my pocket!!
I was going to give up smoking on the 1st January. I'm not now.
ReplyDeleteI actually started smoking cigars about a year and a half ago due to the Nanny bans in the States after never smoking for 41 years.
ReplyDeleteSlightly related - this shopowner has decded to get pre-emtive about weapons ban -

Seventeen: old enough to load a naval sixteen-inch gun but Mum has to cut up your food!
How dare they happily take the £9 billion tax annually from tobacco products yet refuse to represent smokers' interests and, indeed, treat us as if we are beyond the pale.
ReplyDeleteMy loathing of this Government has just intensified (and I didn't think that was possible) and I intend to re-double my efforts to expose the scam of passive smoking and, in due course, to expose the lie that hiding cigarettes significantly reduces the prevalence of smoking in the young.
What the hell do they think happens? Do they imagine that 14 year olds stand at the checkout dreaming of the day when they can buy one of those bright, shiny packets?
I don't think that even this Government are such fools. This is yet another tactic to 'de-normalise smoking' except they seem oblivious to the fact that they are creating a culture in which real people are being demonised and treated with contempt.
There are many reports online of smokers routinely being harassed, verbally and physically assaulted and even murdered, and only last week it was reported that a 61 year old smoker committed suicide because he was so humiliated at the pariah status conferred by the ban that he became reclusive.
This Government passes legislation to protect every minority group yet encourages contempt towards 25% of its population. It is despicable.
